    JOB DESCRIPTION – HOMEBOUND TEACHER


    JOB PURPOSE:  
    Serves as a liaison between the homebound student and their classroom teachers.  Provides direct instruction to the homebound student.  Implements state homebound regulations and District Homebound Policies.
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Provides direct homebound instruction to students who are medically unable to attend school.
    • Maintains accurate timesheets and mileage logs for each student.
    • Keeps weekly calendar of appointments.
    • Coordinates with Attendance Office to ensure that the daily attendance records for each homebound student is coded accurately following the State guidelines.
    • Implemented an academic plan in collaboration with school coordinators, classroom teachers, and students, adhering to district policy.
    • Maintain confidentiality in all interactions with employees.
    • Performs other duties as may be assigned.
     
    JOB SPECIFICATIONS
    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
    Bachelor’s degree or higher and at least three years of successful teaching experience.  
     
    Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
     
    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
    Valid SC Teaching Certificate for subject area as required by South Carolina Department of Education
     (Specific licensure areas may be needed based on student needs)
     
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures and instructional manuals. Ability to design and write professional development plans, reports and data entry procedures. Ability to effectively present professional development and training and respond to questions from groups of educators, trainees, media, administrators and organization members.
     
    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to work with mathematical concepts, such as probability and statistical inference, as well as the display and interpretation of data. Ability to apply basic concepts of statistical analysis, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
     
    REASONING ABILITY:
    Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to analyze information and apply logical reasoning to address work-related issues and concerns. Ability to quickly assess employee, departmental, and administrative needs and provide timely feedback. Ability to identify student adjustment and/or academic matters, provide counseling and/or recommend appropriate remedial action to parents. Ability to supervise students and maintain order in various classrooms and instructional settings. Recognizes and follows the applicable procedures in the “chain of command” as designated by board policies and/or administrative procedures. Presents a positive image of the district at all times.
     
    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
    Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to operate a personal computer and related software. Knowledge of methods for developing lesson plans, materials, and classroom activities that stimulate learning. Knowledge of counseling methods necessary for handling student academic and adjustment problems. Knowledge of the materials and information which must be prepared for classroom instructional activities. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and district employees. Ability to implement a flexible work schedule to meet reporting deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is required. Ability to perform duties with a high level of detail and accuracy. Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks effectively while working independently and collaboratively with group members.

    The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, such as boxes of materials.  The employee may occasionally push or pull items, such as furniture or boxes of materials.
     
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen, and use their hands and arms to reach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.  Some driving required.  The job duties require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.

    The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full-time employment during the school year.  Conditions of employment are adjusted for part-time employees or individuals hired for less than an entire school year.
     
    EVALUATION: 
    The performance of this job is evaluated annually in accordance with Board Policy.
