  •   JOB PURPOSE
     
    Under limited supervision, provides leadership in supporting, promoting and assessing progress toward improved instructional outcomes in K-5 English Language Arts (ELA). Collaborates with staff on short, medium, and long-term planning to develop K-5 ELA in relation to: curriculum, resources, continuous professional development of staff, goals of the district, including its policies and practices regarding K-5 ELA and challenging targets for improvement.  Reports to the       Director of K-12 Teaching and Learning. 
     
    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
     
    Monitors the K-5 ELA instructional process,; analyzes the results of standardized tests, and makes recommendations for improving instructional services as appropriate.
     
    Monitors the curriculum development in ELA throughout the district schools in grades K-5.
     
    Monitors the District’s K-5 ELA programs, ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and laws.
     
    Collaborates with the Director of Teaching and Learning to coordinate and facilitate assistance and support to elementary instructional facilitators, reading coaches, and interventionists.
     
    Collaborates with the Director of Assessment and Accountability to coordinate and facilitate assistance with the K-5 ELA assessment requirements.    

    Analyzes student performance data to identify trends, areas of strength, and areas for improvement in student literacy development.
     
    Assists in the development and use of data-driven strategies to improve student outcomes in ELA.    

    Recommends areas in professional development to address instructional issues and works to provide and plan appropriate professional development for the district.
     
    Coordinates and develops a system for the review of curriculum materials and resources.
     
    Coordinates and facilitates assistance and support to instructional facilitators, reading coaches, and interventionists. Meets with instructional support staff regularly.
     
    Coordinates and provides instructional assistance to teachers.
     
    Assists with strategic planning and the implementation of the strategic plan.
     
    Assists in the preparation of grant proposals and the administration of funds for special projects and programs.
     
    Plans and implements a district­wide program of curriculum review and development at the K-5 level.
     
    Reviews and makes recommendations for changes as appropriate in District policies and procedures related to K-5 ELA programs.
     
    Works with parents and students to resolve instructional concerns.
     
    Works with other instructional directors, supervisors, and coordinators in planning and implementing K-5 ELA district­wide initiatives.
    Advocates for the importance of literacy and ELA instruction across the school community.
    Promotes a culture of high expectations for student achievement in ELA, ensuring all students have access to quality literacy instruction.
    Supports the integration of cross-curricular literacy strategies to strengthen literacy development in all subject areas.
        
    Keeps abreast of developments and innovations in the profession and ensures that staff members remain current as well.
     
    Performs computer data entry to record and retrieve various information and to prepare reports and correspondence.
     
    Receives, reviews, prepares, and/or submits various records and reports including statistical data, statistical and analytical reports, technical reports, payroll reports, requisitions and purchase orders, training reports, budget documents, memos, correspondence, etc.
     
    Operates a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, telephone, calculator, vehicle, etc.
     
    Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other administrators, principals, teachers, parents, students, Board members, and the general public.
     
    Provides content for the weekly memo, District website and assists in promoting other district programs.
     
    Serves on district and state committees as appropriate.
     
    Represents the district at various local, state, and national professional meetings as requested.
     
    Appoints and chairs, as requested, committees and task forces to study and make recommendations regarding special initiatives.
     
    Performs related duties as required.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS
     
    Requires a Master's degree in education supplemented by three to five years of experience as a teacher and instructional support, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess teaching certification. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
