Purpose: The School Health Aide provides support in the care of students and in the maintenance of the efficient operation of the school health office. To accomplish this, the Health Clerk works closely with the registered nurse, staff, and administration of USD#385, and is responsible to the registered nurse, building principal, district lead nurse, and administration.
Qualifications:
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated communication skills.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Must have patience and ability to work with students, parents, and other staff.
- Possess basic computer skills and ability to use office machines as required.
- Desire to continue career improvement.

Performance Responsibilities:
- Help maintain the health room under the direction of the school nurse.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Conform to board policy and health department guidelines on exclusions and readmissions.
- Practice universal precautions and adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Assure and reinforce school, classroom and district safety rules and regulations.
- Gather data and provide basic first aid to students seeking health care. Contact parents according to health protocols.
- Assist with auditing charts for immunizations and assists with state reports; assists Nurse to notify parents of need to update immunizations.
- Assist Nurse to make inquiry of staff as to need for periodic student assessments and screenings; vision, hearing, etc.
- Assist with health screening.
- Record screening results on student health record, record new immunizations, record any pertinent or new information on individual student records.
- Attend meetings and other district in-service activities, as requested.
- Assist students with personal hygiene.
- Send letters, notes or other written communication to parents with Nurse’s knowledge of the communication.
- Communicate in a timely and efficient manner with the supervising Nurse.
- Assist with medication administration in compliance with medication delegation policies.
- Assist with coordinating schedules for Health education programs and communicate with all pertinent participants.
- Responds calmly to emergencies and initiates CPR when appropriate. (AED)
- Document daily contacts in computer.
- Maintain log for supervision follow-up.
- Is able to work independently, yet has a clear understanding of delegation and need for RN interventions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the school nurse and/or principal which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position.
- Assists with health record maintenance.
- Compiles inventory and ordering information and assists with the process to complete these tasks.
- Handle students and emergencies with kind and efficient demeanor.
