TITLE: AHS SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL COUNSELOR
DEFINITION:
The staff member will recognize the warning signs of various mental health disorders in students. Assess the risk of, intervene in, respond and prevent youth suicidal behavior and other social emotional issues. Provide direct services to students, school staff and work collaboratively with community service and long term therapy providers. A staff member responsible for supporting the social/emotional needs of high school students in their personal development to support the learning process.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. The individual must be appropriately certified and/or licensed as a Licensed Practicing Counselor (LPC) or related DORA license or a Licensed Social Worker
2. Experience in mediation and small group counseling to address social/emotional issues.
3. Strong knowledge of counseling practices and ethics
4. Experience and knowledge of trauma informed practice and strategies

The building principal

1. Creation and implementation of prevention programs focused on social emotional issues.
2. Skilled and experienced in mediation.
3. Maximize student learning by meeting students’ social/emotional needs
4. Work with counseling team and student service providers to meet student needs
