TITLE: ELL PARAPROFESSIONAL
DEFINITION:
A staff member who, under the supervision of assigned teacher, is responsible for assisting with individual students or small groups to help them achieve skill levels of the class as a whole.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- AA degree or equivalent of 2-year college, or pass proficiency exam
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Computer literate
- Experience working with children
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students, parents and staff
- Must be able to fluently speak English and Spanish
REPORTS TO:
The classroom teacher to who assigned and/or building principal.
JOB GOALS:
To assist the teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole and to support the instructional process.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on sympathetic understanding of individual students, their language needs and abilities.
- Manages student behavior in a calm, positive, and professional way.
- Plans and prepares materials for independent study, small group, and remedial work assigned to students based on guidelines set forth by the teacher.
- Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher
- Assists with large group activities by circulating in the room to monitor and assist with student performance and behavior.
- Serves as a source of knowledge of the Spanish language and culture with the classroom.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about assigned students as expected of the teachers.
- Communicates and cooperates in effective, professional manner with students, parents, teachers, school staff and the community.
- Keeps records of student work, test scores, attendance, etc. as specified by the teacher and the program.
- Participates in faculty meetings and in-service training programs as appropriate.
- Provides supervision of students outside the classroom as specified by duties.
- Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the teacher.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Number of days assigned annually.
- Salary and benefits as per Board policy.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy and procedures.
