RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1. Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building 20 minutes before the official start time.
 
2. Reviews all plans and schedules to be followed during the instructional day.
 
3. Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the assigned school and classroom.
 
4. Implements outlined plans.
 
5. Assumes responsibility for overseeing student behavior in class and during assigned duties.
 
6. Leaves reports when appropriate at the conclusion of each day.
 
7. Remains in assignment until after all designated students have been dismissed.
 
8. Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular certified staff are subject and which good practice dictates.
 
9. Maintains confidentiality.
 
10. Good oral and written communication skills.
 
11. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 
 
 
• Any combination equivalent to:  Licensed registered nurse and two years comprehensive nursing experience.
• First Aid and BLS CPR certified
• Knowledge of various health-screening practices, procedures and techniques
• Knowledge of oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of record-keeping techniques
• Knowledge of policies and objectives of assigned program and activities

DUTIES:
 
 
 
• Administer first aid according to established procedures; conduct a variety of health screenings; prepare and maintain accurate student medical records
• Administer first aide or nursing care for accidents, seizures, preventive medicine and other educational-related medical problems; provide CPR and first aid to school employees as needed
• Coordinate height, weight, vision, hearing, scoliosis and other health screenings as required by regulations; coordinate and/or provide screening for head lice and observe students on a regular basis to detect health needs
• Refer students to appropriate personnel resources or clinics and follow-up as necessary
• Maintain health records and medical logs; update immunization and student records as needed; prepare and submit periodic medical reports for appropriate organizations or district personnel and assure compliance with established laws and regulations
• Train and act as a consultant for individual(s) trained to dispense medication, screen for lice and provide medical treatment/first aid/CPR in accordance with physician’s instructions within district guidelines.
• Communicate with various community health agencies and civic organization to exchange information, coordinate activities and obtain student needs such as medication, glasses, hearing aids and clothing as much as possible.
• Conduct training for students, parents and school staff as required
• Provide information and make recommendations to principals, substitutes, teachers and parents regarding health issues of students and school health program needs
• Make home visits as required
• Maintain stock of first aid supplies; assure medical equipment is in proper working condition; order supplies and equipment as needed
• Participate in screening for health defects and sanitary conditions in schools
• Maintain current knowledge of medical advances and information, public health issues and treatment procedures
