Duties and Responsibilities
• Follow work schedule as given.
• Follow all BVIU and school policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate the ability to follow written Individualized Educational Programs, and assist with progress monitoring.
• Demonstrate ability to effectively deescalate student behaviors, and follow taught crisis intervention techniques.
• Assist the students with toileting and self-care needs.
• Assist teachers, substitutes, and others with assigned students.
• Assist with clerical duties.
• Assist with supervision of students.
• Accompany students to special classes and other areas as assigned.
• Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
 
Qualifications 
• Annual completion of required number of paraprofessional hours.
• Consistently demonstrate ability to effectively interact with and assist students with special needs.
• Follow directives of assigned teachers and supervisors.
• Demonstrate compassion for students and their families.
• Demonstrate the ability to work well with coworkers.
• Maintain a minimum of proficiency, or equivalent, in all areas of evaluation.
• Demonstrate confidentiality inside and outside of the work place.

Requirements
• Minimum age of eighteen (18) years.
• Clean criminal background.
• Three (3) positive professional references.
• Experience working with school aged children.

After Hire (Contingent)
• Three background checks required:
  • Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check
  • Federal Criminal History Record Information (CHRI)
• Complete PDE approved classroom management training at an intermediate unit.

• Direct aides as to classroom responsibilities.
• Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.

Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree (in ANY field). Non-bachelor degree opportunities available., see below for details.
• Clean criminal background.
• Three (3) positive professional references.
• Experience working with school aged children.

• Valid Substitute Teacher Emergency Permit, Pennsylvania Educator Certificate or Out of State Certificate
• OR Valid Classroom Monitor (Non-Bachelor's Degree) Emergency Permit.

  • Has completed at least sixty (60) semester hours or the equivalent of courses at a regionally accredited college or university located in Pennsylvania (official transcripts) OR has at least 3 years of experience as a paraprofessional in a school entity and is currently employed as a paraprofessional in a school entity.
