JOB SUMMARY:         
Under the direction of the Director of Pupil Services, is responsible for assisting in the monitoring of the building’s hallways during the school day.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Walk the halls of the building to provide an adult presence in the hallways.
• Conduct video surveillance of students as reported by school officials.
• Investigate and support level 1 and 2 infractions including truancy-deliver detention passes to students.
• Encourage students to arrive to class on time.
• Check passes of students who are walking in the hallways during class time.
• Communicate with office staff regarding any students who do not have passes and are skipping class.
• Assist teachers and administration in promoting the importance of getting to class on time.
• Monitor lavatories as often as possible, where appropriate.
• Greet visitors when possible, directing them to the Main Office for Visitor sign-in.
• Increase student awareness of their behavior and the consequences of their actions.
• Immediately respond to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to students and employees.
• Protect school assets relative to theft, assault, fire and other safety issues in coordination with the School Resource Officer and administration.
• Oversees students while in the hall and other areas in the building.
• Escorts students on pass restriction.
• Active member of the safety committee.
• Performs other duties as appropriate and required.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
            None
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Training in intervention methodology
• Experience supervising groups of children and working with diverse youth.
• Knowledge and sensitivity to culturally diverse population.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to communicate and motivate students to address behaviors.
• Ability to work independently with good organizational skills and the ability to be flexible and handle changing priorities.
 
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelors or Associate Degree preferred.
• Experience working with age level children.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to print and speak simple sentences.  Multilingual (Spanish) preferred.
 
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students.  Be able to observe unusual student behavior and advise supervisor.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

SUMMARY: 
Assist students in acquiring life-long learning skills through the implementation of programs that promote student learning, personal/social development, and career development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Planning and Development of Counseling Program:
• Identifies student counseling/guidance needs.
• Develops plan of action meeting such needs.
• Plans meaningful sequence of counseling/comprehensive school services.
• Assists in defining counseling/school program objectives.
• Develops school counseling program through implementing objectives and yearly individual counselor goals.
• Provides data as required for evaluating comprehensive school counseling programs.

Counseling:
• Initiates individual counseling session with assigned students annually.
• Initiates session to counsel students in their adjustment to school.
• Initiates on-going individual counseling of students when appropriate regarding career planning and personal/emotional adjustments.
• Initiates individual counseling session with students needing extra support:  communicating with peers/teachers, and developing stronger self-concept.
• Initiates individual counseling session with students requiring help with learning difficulties, repeated school suspensions, social/emotional issues.
• Initiates student contact in classroom, homeroom where applicable, and other related settings, on a regular basis, to provide informational guidance and student/counselor contact.
• When counseling, seeks to develop and problem solve decision-making abilities of students.
• Conducts group counseling sessions when appropriate.

Instructional Planning:
• Consults with faculty/administration on student curricular needs.
• Assists students in developing long-range educational plans.
• Assist students in program planning and course selections.
• Consults with students and parents on course change considerations.

Placement Planning:
• Assists students in relating interests and aptitudes toward future educational/ occupational plans.
• Assists students in gathering information concerning careers/education.
• Writes letters of recommendation and furnishes data on students for prospective employers/institutions.
• Assists students in planning and applying for future education, employment or military service.
• Helps coordinate selected resources from business, industry, military and colleges into the curriculum.
• Maintains updated occupational and educational resources  
• Updates self through conferring with college representatives, military recruiters, vocational-technical schools, private schools and employment personnel.

Pupil Appraisal:
• Coordinates accumulation of information concerning students through academic anecdotal records, interviews, progress reports, standardized tests, credit tabulation.
• Coordinates organization and maintenance of permanent student files.
• Distributes and interprets student test information to students, parents, and professionals with the right to know.
• Helps identify students needing special educational servicing.

 Referral:
• Assists in identifying students with special needs requiring referral services.
• Helps identify community referral agencies/services.
• Assists students and/or families needing such services to become aware of community agencies/supportive personnel.
• Maintains professional communication with agencies/personnel.
• Assists in making referrals for special educational services/psychological testing.
• Attends Planning and Placement Team meetings and helps implement resultant recommendations.

Consulting:
• Shares appropriate individual student data with staff members, with due regard to confidentiality.
• Acts as consultant to teachers/administration to help develop a clearer perception of student characteristics, needs, behaviors.
• Works with teacher/administrator to insure school resources meet student needs.
• Assists teachers/administrators to identify students with special needs, keeping them informed of developments affecting the classroom situation.
• Participates in case conferences, staff meetings and in-service training programs to advocate student educational needs.
• Shares general information relative to family development and family life.
• Performs other duties as appropriate and required.
