- Advocate the needs of high risk students within the confines of the policies and procedures adopted by the district.
4. Assist with conflict resolution and anger management.
5. Help the student develop appropriate social interaction skills.
6. Assist the student in understanding and accepting self and others.
PARENTS 7. Interview the families to assess problems affecting the student’s educational
achievement and adjustments.
8. Provide information and assist in contacting available community agencies which may
assist in meeting the needs of high risk students.
9. Work with parents to facilitate their support to their children’s school adjustment.
10. Alleviate family stress to enable the child to function more effectively in school and in
the community.
11. Educate parents regarding the social, emotional, physical and academic needs of
child.
FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION 12. Develop positive interpersonal relationships with students, families, staff and
community.
13. Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent or
designee.
14. Identify factors in a child’s living situation (home, school, and community) which
impinge upon his/her education.
15. Help the system respond effectively to each child’s needs, by coordinating and
consulting with school personnel and community agencies.
16. Serve as a part of the multidisciplinary team by participating in special education
assessment meetings as well as IEP meetings.
17. Prepare social history assessments to determine factors which my affect a
student’s ability to learn.
18. Advocate for new and improved community / school services to meet the needs
of students and families.
19. Use discretion in regards to confidentiality.
20. Provide staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural,
societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) affecting a student’s performance
and behavior.
21. Assess students with mental health concerns.
22. Assist teachers in classroom management skills through classroom observations.
23. Provide direct support to staff.
24. Act as a consultant to school personnel regarding abuse and neglect cases.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT The district School Social Worker will be employed for a term of 185 days. Compensation is according to education and related experience, and will be reviewed annually. All full-time employee benefits will be offered.
