Substitute Bus Driver

Position Function
Under direction of Director of Transportation and Facilities, provide sae and efficient transportation for students, teachers, and others. 

Bus Driver Essential Functions
• Obeys all traffic laws.
• Observes all rules and safety regulations for the safe operation of school buses and is a defensive driver.
• Is a courteous driver and allows traffic to pass the bus whenever it is safe to do so.
• Checks the bus before each operation for mechanical or electrical defects and notifies the transportation supervisor of any maintenance problem. 
• Enforces all rules and regulations and maintains discipline by following the established disciplinary procedure.
• Keeps to the assigned schedule whenever possible while making certaint that all speed limits and regulations are strictly followed. 
• Exercises responsible leadership.
• Assists in supervising students throughout trips and remains with students both on and off the bus.
• Reports all accidents and completes all required reports within established time limits.
• Keeps the assigned bus clean by sweeping it daily and washing the interior and exterior as required. 
• Follows all established safety guidelines and procedures.
• Covers other bus runs as assigned and works as a team member.
• Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering school busses.
• Interacts pleasantly with the public, students, and staff, and provides assistance as indicated. 
• Performs such other tasks as may be assigned by the Principal and head mechanic.

Working Conditions
Mental Demands: Involves ability to follow directions and established procedures. Requires ability to assist in maintaining discipline and order on all bus trips in order to create a safe environment. Also requires ability to react quickly and confidently in emergency situations. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public, students, and other workers.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit while driving and occasionally required to walk or stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while dirivng. The employee frequently repeats the same hand, arm and finger motion many times. Use of legs and feet is required to apply constant pressure to gas and brake pedals as well as occasional pressure to cluthc. This position requires lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling medium to heavy loads. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing are also required in situations where lifting and pulling may or may not be required. Ability to reach above head or below waist is also required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and peripheral vision. Employee must be able to pull 50 lbs to open bus hood on a daily basis and to perform emergency evacuations as needed. 

Environmental Conditions: Most work is performed driving a school bus but occasional outside work is required. There is exposure to a variety of chemical sincluding but not limited to gasoline, diesel, vapors, cleaning agents, exhaust, oils, lubricants and smoke. The employee occasionally works in temparatures above 100 degrees F and below 32 degrees F and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well being of others. The noise lvel in the work environment is frequently lout to where you have to raise your voice to be heard.

Qualifications Profile
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. 
Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
• High School or Vocational School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.
• Holds a valid State of Maine Bus Driver's License and meets all state laws and regulations regarding licensure. 
• Maine CDL Bus Operator's license.
• Maine Criminal History Records Check is required.

Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Food Service Director, to assist in preparing and serving school meals in accordance with Board policy and established district procedures. 

Essential Functions
• Assists in preparing school meals, according to the scheduled menu.
• Assist in serving school meals.
• Assist in cleaning the kitchen areas after meals have been served.
• Assists students with orderly food purchases, distribution of food, disposal of food waste, and return of trays and utensils.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective organizational and problem solving skills.
• Ability to maintain composure and perform responsibilities under pressure. 
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality about students in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and district guidelines.
Qualifications Profile
• Must be willing to travel between the 3 districts

Description: Substitute Teacher 

Job Summary: To prepare learners to achieve their personal best; continue the learning prescribed for that day; provide direction for each student as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher.
Essential Functions and Performance Responsibilities: (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)
 
1. Report to main office upon arrival at the school building.
2. Arrive on time, according to the work-day hours, clock in, look over substitute plans and prepare for lessons of the day.
3. Familiarize yourself with the building and other teachers who are available to you throughout the day. Don’t hesitate to ask for help. Seeking help will allow you to be more successful in your position.
4. Uphold all District policies, rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subject.
5. Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures (including classroom management techniques) for the school and classroom to which assigned.
6. Teach the lessons outlined in the substitute plans as prepared by the absent teacher.
7. Maximize the probability of success by:
   1. clearly communicating expectations
   2. adapting for individual learner needs
   3. actively involving students in learning
   4. providing a risk-free, safe environment
8. Assume responsibility for overseeing student behavior in class and throughout the building during assigned duties. 
9. Maintain professional relationships. 
10. Provide direction to students in case of emergency.
11. Follow directions given by the regular teacher to conclude your day (process work, tidy room, )
12. Provide feedback to the teacher using the form provided. Include comments on the behavior of students, lessons completed, possible changes made in the plans and why.
13. Provide feedback to the principal, when appropriate.
14. Check out at the main office at the end of your day.  Don't forget to clock out. 
15. If accepting a long-term assignment, you are expected to assume all duties and responsibilities of the full-time teacher (notably: lesson planning, parent communication, report cards, etc.) and to be present on all teacher work days including parent-teacher conferences (evenings) and institute days, unless alternative arrangements are made with the building principal.
