    About the Madawaska School Department
    The Madawaska School Department serves students in grades PreK-12 in Madawaska, ME, the most Northeastern town in the United States, and one of the stops on the SCMA Four Corners Tour.  The district has two (2) schools, the Madawaska Elementary School (PreK-6) a 2000-01 Nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School, and Madawaska Middle/High School (7-12), the 16th Ranked High School in Maine, according to the US News and World Report

    The Madawaska School Department is seeking a full-time School Social Worker to work with students throughout our district, PreK-12. The selected candidate will focus on overall behavioral/social-emotional, and mental health support of the district students, while helping develop a trauma-informed, multi-tiered system of support for positive behavior and emotional wellbeing. In addition, the ideal candidate will assist with other school social work responsibilities. 

    Responsibilities:
    • Counsel students with social-emotional, behavioral and mental health isssues that impact their well-being & learning
    • Provide counseling sessions and treatment plans
    • Communicate with students to determine the areas in which they may need assistance and counseling
    • Partner with teachers, administrators, school counselors, school nurses and other support staff to gain a deeper understanding of student behavioral, social-emotional and mental health needs 
    • Partner with teachers, administrators, school counselors, school nurses and other support staf to establish a coordinatored, trauma-informed system of response to student behavioral, social-emotional and mental health needs 
    • Respond to day-to-day issues and unanticipated student crises during the school day 
    • De-escalate students in crisis, and support teachers and staff in implementing risk reduction & de-escalation strategies
    • Physicall intervene when students are a danger to themselves or others, in accordance with trauma-informed crisis prevention/intervention principles
    • Collect and analyze data related to student behavior
    • Provide regular counseling to students in need of social and emotional support in an educational setting; this includes both mandated counseling to students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) as well as individual and group counseling to other students as needed 
    • Act as liaison between community-based oranizations, students and their families
    • Create programs for students to promote emotional and mental health
    • Facilitiate the creation and implementation of functional behavioral assessments (FBA) and behavior intervention plans (BIP)

    Qualifications:
    • Licensure level of LMSW, CC (Minimum) or LCSW (preferred)
    • Maine Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) Required
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Outstanding relationships with relevant social services agencies
    • Certification in non-violent crisis prevention and intervention (may be acquired after hire)
