JOB DESCRIPTION
MECHANIC-BUS GARAGE
JOB TITLE: Mechanic – Bus Garage
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation and Director of Operations
PURPOSE STATEMENT: To maintain the fleet in the best possible condition, to make sure buses pass State Highway Patrol inspections, thus permitting the safe and timely distribution of pupils to all curricular and extracurricular activities.
QUALIFICATIONS: - High School Diploma
- CDL license must be maintained with school bus endorsement or capable of obtaining said license.
- Four (4) years’ experience as a Diesel Mechanic. Previous experience repairing school buses preferred, but not required.
- Successful completion of mandated FBI and BCI background check, required drug testing, and other tests are required.
- Mechanical knowledge of the following: Air brake systems, Medium/Heavy Duty Truck electrical systems, Allison automatic transmissions, differential experience, Diesel engines, ie., Cummins and Cat
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCITIONS AND DUTIES: - Do required emergency repairs and emergency road call to the fleet.
- Assist with creating a plan for long term preventive maintenance for all bus fleet equipment and other district owned vehicles.
- Assist in maintaining maintenance records for all fleet repairs and general servicing.
- Assist in maintaining parts supply necessary for repairs of all fleet equipment and vehicles.
- Drive a bus route on an as needed basis.
- Attend workshops and seminars in which bus maintenance procedures and techniques are taught.
- Responsible for the organization and cleanliness of the garage.
- Establish a routine of assessing district owned vehicles for cleanliness, care, adjustments and repairs as needed.
- Make every effort to continue the district reputation in the community and surrounding area by maintain a clean, well painted, and mechanically sound fleet.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Transportation and the Director of Operations.
- Remain free of any alcohol or drug abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
Terms of Employment: 260 contract work days.
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually until a continuing contract is awarded and then every two years thereafter.
