TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  184-day contract

PURPOSE STATEMENT:  This position was established for the purpose of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a Teacher (Regular Education) with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans; delivering group and individual student instructions within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents/guardians regarding the instructional program and individual progress.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in job-related area.
• Valid Ohio Department of Education license appropriate for the position.
• Valid Ohio Driver’s License
• Completes and passes a BCI and FBI background check.
• Job related experience is required
• Ability and willingness to work with other professionals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Administer subject specific assessment and test for assessing the level of students' competencies.
• Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
• Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
• Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
• Counsel students for improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.
• Demonstrate methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for providing an effective program that addressing individual student requirements.
• Direct assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers for providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
• Manage student behavior for providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitor students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, field trips, etc.) for providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Participate in a variety of meetings for conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
• Prepare a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
• Report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code and school policies.
• Respond to emergency situations for resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
• Support classroom teachers for assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans.
• Treats all students in a fair and equitable manner.
• Interacts positively with students, co-workers and parents.

JOB DESCRIPTION
 
JOB TITLE:  Bus Driver                                                                              Classified- OAPSE Union

REPORTS TO:  Director of Transportation 

Starting pay - Based on experience $19.07 - $23.45 hr.
Training starting pay $15.50/hr.
Paid training by VLSD                                                     
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Contract length will be established by the number of pupil days. The number and length of day will vary in relation to the route.

PURPOSE STATEMENT:  The school bus driver's responsibilities include ensuring proper vehicle maintenance, observing safety and traffic rules, and maintaining order among students while they are on the bus. To be successful as a school bus driver you should enjoy working with children and strictly observe passenger transport regulations.
 
QUALIFICATION:   
1. High School Diploma or GED
2. Completion of pre-employment driver’s training and ability to pass a physical examination.
3. Holder of a valid Commercial Driver’s License with School Bus Drivers Certification
4. Able to meet and work with the general public
5. Able to relate to students in a warm and positive manner
6. Completion of basic bus drivers training within one year;
7. Pass mandated criminal records check, required drug testing and other tests as required
8. Able to meet standards and be certified by the Erie-Huron-Ottawa Educational Service Center.
 
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Obey all traffic laws.
2. Observe all safety regulations for busing of students.
3. Be familiar with the School Bus Handbook for parents and students printed by the Board of Education, and enforce same.
4. Maintain discipline when students are on the bus.
5. Keep assigned bus clean and sanitary.
6. Check assigned bus at end of each run for sleeping students and turn the card in the rear window to indicate that the bus is empty.
7. Check bus before and after each operation for mechanical defects and report same to Transportation Supervisor or Assistant Transportation Supervisor.
8. Keep to assigned schedule, route and stops. Do not vary from assigned schedule unless authorized by the Supervisor, or in case of emergency.
9. Complete all reports and forms as required.
10. Keep an accurate and up-to-date list of students and maps of route and stops on the bus or in the bus pocket at all times.
11. Keep bus driver handbook up-to-date and in good condition at all time.
12. Report all accidents immediately and complete all forms required.
13. Report any absence or lateness from work to the Supervisor at the earliest possible time so that a substitute can be obtained.
14. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
15. Perform other related duties as assigned.
 
EVALUATION: Evaluation will be done on an annual basis until a continuing contract is awarded, and every two years thereafter.

REPORTS TO:  Director of Transportation and Director of Operations                                  
 
PURPOSE STATEMENT:  To maintain the fleet in the best possible condition, to make sure buses pass State Highway Patrol inspections, thus permitting the safe and timely distribution of pupils to all curricular and extracurricular activities.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma
• CDL license must be maintained with school bus endorsement or capable of obtaining said license.
• Four (4) years’ experience as a Diesel Mechanic.  Previous experience repairing school buses preferred, but not required.
• Successful completion of mandated FBI and BCI background check, required drug testing, and other tests are required.
• Mechanical knowledge of the following:  Air brake systems, Medium/Heavy Duty Truck electrical systems, Allison automatic transmissions, differential experience, Diesel engines, ie., Cummins and Cat
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCITIONS AND DUTIES:
• Do required emergency repairs and emergency road call to the fleet.
• Assist with creating a plan for long term preventive maintenance for all bus fleet equipment and other district owned vehicles.
• Assist in maintaining maintenance records for all fleet repairs and general servicing.
• Assist in maintaining parts supply necessary for repairs of all fleet equipment and vehicles.
• Drive a bus route on an as needed basis.
• Attend workshops and seminars in which bus maintenance procedures and techniques are taught.
• Responsible for the organization and cleanliness of the garage.
• Establish a routine of assessing district owned vehicles for cleanliness, care, adjustments and repairs as needed.
• Make every effort to continue the district reputation in the community and surrounding area by maintain a clean, well painted, and mechanically sound fleet.
• Other duties as assigned by Director of Transportation and the Director of Operations.
• Remain free of any alcohol or drug abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
 
Terms of Employment:  260 contract work days.
 
 
Evaluation:  Performance of this position will be evaluated annually until a continuing contract is awarded and then every two years thereafter.
