Job Title: Literacy Enrichment Facilitator
Location: Bright Beginnings
Payment Rate: In accordance with the USD 443 Salary Schedule- Literacy Enrichment Facilitator - Salary Range - $21.41 hourly  & Literacy Bus - Salary Range - $27.10 hourly- Fulltime - 260 days a year
Evaluation & Benefits: In accordance with the USD 443 Classified Handbook
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Head Start Principal/Director

PURPOSE: To provide student or family education/support services. To help parents become
self-sufficient and provide an environment where adults and students can develop to their fullest
potential.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
•  High School diploma or equivalent.
•  Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred.
• Maintain current CPR/First Aid Training.
Experience:
•  1 year of direct experience working with children and/or families.
• Clerical and/or tutorial skills required; basic administrative skills helpful on a limited basis.
• Supervisory and training skills.
• Bilingual skills preferred but not required.
•  Maintain a current driver’s license with CDL and passenger bus endorsements.
• Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
• Effective communication skills;
• Bilingual Preferred in reading, writing and speaking.
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
• Broad range of general office skills.
• Excellent human relations skills with desire to interact with parents, students, staff, and the public.
• Computer skills including data entry, report generation, word processing, etc.
• Commitment and discretion to maintain confidentiality.
• Valid Driver’s License.
•  Must have knowledge and experience in child development and early childhood education; in the principles of child health, safety, nutrition; in adult learning principles; and in family dynamics.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare a schedule for all half day classes to attend the library weekly.
• Plan and prepare a weekly story related to either their Creative Curriculum Study or seasonal things, or special events happening throughout the school year. – Cover topics such as characteristics of good friends, sharing, taking turns, problem solving, dental health, pedestrian safety, nutrition, dressing appropriately for the weather, etc.
•  Plan and prep daily stories/music/activities for the all-day classes, usually Mystery Monday, Kindermusik on Tuesday and Thursday. PLC Activities on Wednesday and a story and book check out on Fridays.
• Manage library inventory and Destiny program. Check books in and out. Repair damaged books.  Enter new books into the Destiny program. Shelve books.
• Prepare open library times for parents and students to come and check out books.
•  Have take home activities for parents and students that support the classroom teachings.
• Plan and prepare weekly after school story time for parents and students. Create Flyers and advertise on social media
• Teach proper ways to take care of books. Promote the importance of reading. Teach about the concept of the library and its function. Teach students about parts of the book, authors and illustrators.
• Create bulletin boards throughout the year.
• Assist teachers in finding books to support their classroom teaching.
• Prepare a monthly bilingual activity calendar for families.
•  Support staff in the planning and preparations of any extracurricular activities that are planned, such as parent meetings, special events, Tournament of Champions, Week of the Young Child, Last day of school activities, kinder readiness activities, Read Across America
• Maintain an emergency substitute license, maintain required First Aid and CPR certifications.
• Support the value of an education
• Support the philosophy and mission of USD 443 & Bright Beginnings
• React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Maintain a current driver’s license with CDL and passenger bus endorsements.
• Attend Defensive Driving
• Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification
• Provide preventive checks on the literacy bus, for upkeep and maintenance.
• Schedule needed repairs and yearly maintenance for the Literacy bus.
•  Wash the bus. Clean & Vacuum inside the bus regularly and empty the trash frequently.
•  Keep supplies required for activities.
• Plan and implement a regular schedule during the school year for story time, snacks and an activity.
• Create flyers and provide information for all families.
• Distribute flyers around the community and to local businesses for advertising.
• Plan a lunch and literacy during the summer. Coordinate with Nutrition Program
• Plan and prep all stories and activities for Literacy Bus activities and events
• Attend the Literacy Bus as many community functions as possible. Parades, Kid Fest, Dodge City Days Parade, etc.
• Be available to other agencies for Literacy Bus appearances.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands.
• The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms.
• The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
•  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• The work environment is in an office setting.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Purpose: Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, to promote student success, provide preventative services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students.
Responsible to: Principal
Payment rate: According to the negotiated agreement
Qualifications:
•  Master’s degree in school counseling from an accredited college required.
•  Current Kansas Teaching Certificate or license on file in the Central Office with counseling endorsement required.
• Kansas Certification of Health Certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment offer is made).

Supervision
Provides work direction to assigned volunteers, students, mentors, secretaries and/or paraprofessionals.
Essential Functions:
• Implements the high school guidance curriculum;
• Conducts orientation activities for new students;
• Develop and maintain a written plan for effective delivery of the high school counseling program.
• Develop and deliver age appropriate guidance curriculum to assigned students.
• Accurately and appropriately interpret and utilize student data.
• Collaborate with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational and career planning.
• Provide preventative and responsive services. Provide appropriate information to staff, parents/guardians in interpreting and understanding student data.
• Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
• Use available technology resources to enhance the high school counseling program.
• Monitor student academic performance, behavior and attendance and assist with appropriate interventions.
• Adhere to laws, policies, procedures and ethical standards of the school counseling profession.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
•  Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
• Must lift and/or carry instructional equipment and materials generally up to 50 pounds.
•  May work in classrooms or multiple locations depending upon nature of the instructional activities.
• Requires extended periods of both sitting and standing.
General Responsibilities:
Counseling
• Provide individual planning sessions to students in the areas of social and emotional development, academic planning, and career awareness appropriate to the grade level.
• Conduct structured, goal-oriented counseling sessions in response to identified needs of groups of children. Themes include academic skill building, social skill development, conflict resolution, family issues, making healthy choices, and career awareness.
• Assist in the transition to the next grade level.
• Interpret tests, student data, and other assessments appropriately.
• Provide individual counseling in response to student needs and requests.
Guidance
• Interprets standardized test results;
• Assists the administration with the state mandate and school testing programs;
•  Develop and conduct developmental guidance lessons in the classroom and in large groups;
• Facilitate the integration of the guidance curriculum into the educational curricula;
• Select topics and resources consistent with school identified objectives, consistent with middle college model;
• Assist in the development and implementation of experiential activities geared toward improving school climate, communication and community capacity building (i.e. student leadership retreats, diversity issue workshops and activities that foster pride and increase cohesion on campus);
Coordinating
• Advocate for equal access to programs and services for all students.
• Promote the liaison and coordination of school activities and resources and communicate between and among home, school, community and other organizations as appropriate.
• Coordinate parent education programs to assist students in making a smooth transition from high school to continuing education or career.
Individual Planning
• Assists students in developing an educational plan
• Provides grade level transitional activities
• Provides school-to-career guidance activities;
• Provides scholarship Information;
School System
• Participate in school decision making and in activities, which contribute to the effective operation of the school.
• Cooperate, collaborate, and communicate with the DCPS community in enhancing the education of students.
• Provide information to the DCPS community about the role of the school counseling program in the overall educational process of the school.
Professionalism
• Adhere to ethical standards and best practices of state and national school counselor associations.
• Demonstrate knowledge of local policies and state and federal laws pertaining to school counseling.
• Demonstrate personal growth and professional development.
