    Job Title: District Activity Director

     

    Payment Rate: In accordance with the USD 443 Salary Schedule
    FLSA Status: Exempt
    Reports To: High School Principal

     

    Purpose: The District Activity Director (7-12) position is designed to provide coordination between the 7/8 and 9-12 activities & events. The District Activity Director provides visionary leadership for the district's activities. This position ensures that activities and co-curricular programming aligns with the district's educational mission, promotes academic success, and fosters a positive culture of school pride, spirit, and community engagement.

    While this position is ideally responsible for both athletic and activities management, we recognize that finding a candidate with expertise in both areas can be challenging.     EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

     

               Education:
     

     
    • Master’s degree in Educational Administration, Athletic Administration, or a related field.

    • Current Kansas Certification or Licensure.

    • Kansas Building Leadership License or equivalent administrative certification.

    • Such alternatives to the above as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

      Experience:
       

    • Three years of experience in teaching, program administration, or a related leadership role.

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

    • Expertise in athletic/activity program compliance, budget management, and program development.

    • Problem solving and organizational skills. 

    • Ability to attend to details.

      DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

      Administrative Services:

    • Work with parents, staff, and student groups as requested to advance educational objectives and related athletic activities.

    • Present a positive image of the school(s) to parents and convey a genuine concern for the education, growth, and developmental of each student.

    • Keep informed about the changing role of administrator through attendance at administrative meetings, conferences, and continued professional study.

    • Assist the principal(s) with the development and supervision of the school’s educational program.

    • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 

    • Excellent computer skills, strong communication skills both verbal and written.

    • Assist the principal(s) in the general administration of the school’s activities as requested.

    • Serve on the district administrative team as requested.

    • Contribute articles to the school(s) newsletter as requested.

    • Assist in the development of the school calendar and Fine Arts Calendar.

    • Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Blood Borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan, the Hazard Communications Plan, etc.

    • Assist with the development of an atmosphere of respect, interest, and enthusiasm within the school(s).

    • Communicate openly and effectively with students, community, staff, and administration.

    • Assist with supervision in providing for the general welfare of the students during the school day, on school trips, and during school athletic activities.

    • Share in the planning and direction of student enrollment, attendance, and withdrawal.

    • Assist with the administration of district policies in the operation of the school(s).

    • Assist in establishing and maintaining school records and filling necessary reports.

    • Assist in school compliance with legal and regulatory requirements of the various governmental agencies.

    • Work cooperatively with peers in sharing ideas, techniques, and procedures for improvement of the learning environment.

    • Assist with commencement ceremonies.

    • Take an active role in preventing and resolving discipline problems occurring at school, on school buses, and at student activities.

    • Act as liaison to parents for complaints and special requests.

    • Collaborate with teachers, principals, psychologists, counselors, nurses, or other appropriate personnel to discuss student needs and to establish a plan for respective roles in meeting those needs.

    • Make recommendations for appropriate revisions of policies and rules affecting the students in the school(s).

    • Assist in planning and coordinating school assemblies.

    • Develop and initiate programs which enhance communication between students and staff.

    • Assist with student registration in July.

    • Supervise school athletic activities as assigned.

    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal(s) or other administrative staff.
       
             General Duties:
    • Update district calendar.

    • Oversight / Approval of all budget expenditures.

    • Update / Revise departmental handbooks and policies.

    • KSHSAA handbook compliance issues.

    • Game Day management (security, officials, event workers, crowd control, coordination of visitor sections, etc).

    • Manage social media accounts, athletic department website.

    • Character training for coaches, and student-athletes.

    • Attend conference meetings (WAC/KSHSAA).

    • Fundraising/liaison with local businesses to coordinate corporate sponsorships, and booster club events.

    • Approval of fundraising / overnight trip requests.

    • Transportation requests for all in town and out of town needs.

    • Summer camp / clinic coordination (KSHSAA compliance).

    • Research relevant topics for the district.

    • Data analysis (weekly eligibility reports, GPA analysis for end of year reports / awards, KSHSAA eligibility reports).

    • Coordination of custodial/grounds staff for home events.

    • Research and advise any major equipment replacement or upgrades.

    • Research and advise any facility upgrades.

    • Continued Professional Growth for program improvement (Certified Athletic Administrator coursework / Head Coaches Council).

    • Sign off on outside use of facilities.


      Coaches:

    • Recommend to principal for hire or replacement.

    • Mentor coaches (Head Coaches Council).

    • Pre-Season meeting (expectations).

    • All-District coaches inservice (annual meeting).

    • Practice walkthroughs.

    • Post-Season Evaluation.

    • Mediator for any parent/coach/student issues that may arise.

    • Inventory evaluation.

    • Prepare activity budgets

    • Assist coaches in program Public Relations / Social Media.

    • Assist coaches in Professional Growth opportunities.

    • Athletic disciplinary issues (Student Code of Conduct issues).

    • Coordination of Athletic Training issues, in cooperation with Head Athletic Trainer.

    • Other duties as determined by the Building Principal / Superintendent.


      Scheduling:

    • Completion of an interscholastic schedule for all high school activities.

    • Schedule and coordinate conference events.

    • Hiring of officials / event workers.

    • Supervise out of town events (Varsity contests).

      Purchasing:

    • Purchase equipment/supplies needed for hosting events.

    • Approve coaches orders for team supplies.

    • Organizing uniform replacement schedule.

    • Work closely with the district financial officer on all major purchases.

      KSHSAA:

    • Host / Organize KSHSAA post-season events.

    • Host / Organize special activity related events.

    • Complete and send in all entry forms (usually done twice a month).

    • Updating directories on KSHSAA website.

    • Completing participation surveys (three times per year).

    • Coordinate loss of time surveys (every four years).

    • Pay KSHSAA entry fees / verify KSHSAA event ticket reports.
