    The McDonald Local School District Board of Education is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Superintendent. This vacancy is due to the resignation of Mr. Kevin O’Connell effective July 31, 2025.
     
    COMMUNITY PROFILE
    The McDonald Local School District is located in northeastern Trumbull County. The district encompasses all of the Village of McDonald and a portion of Weathersfield Township.
     
    DISTRICT PROFILE
    The district is comprised of McDonald High School and Roosevelt Elementary School. McDonald High School is located at 600 Iowa Ave., and Roosevelt Elementary is located at 410 W. Seventh St. The district educates approximately 720 students. District staff include 60 certified members (including teachers, Title I teachers, and administration staff) and 27 classified members (including classified union members, para-professional aids, and administration staff). The McDonald Local School District has been named a 5-Star district by the state of Ohio for both 2023 and 2024.

    The McDonald Local School District is committed to pursuing academic excellence, inspiring productive citizenship, and empowering lifelong learning for every student.

    SUPERINTENDENT QUALIFICATIONS
    The qualities and characteristics desired for the leader of the district are, in part, identified below.
     
    The Superintendent will:
    • Possess visionary skills as an educational leader and the ability to set short and long-range goals for ongoing improvement.
    • Identify and support effective and innovative instructional practices based on research and data.
    • Create and maintain community engagement processes that allow for maintaining ongoing and open, two-way communication between the school and community stakeholders.
    • Work with the Board of Education to sustain a focus on district goals and engage district staff in the process and responsibility of achieving such goals.
    • Create a culture that supports continuous improvement throughout the district.
    • Possess strong management skills.
    • Demonstrate a sincere interest in the community along with the ability to inspire community confidence in the school system.
    • Serve as a skilled communicator and mediator in working with the board, parents, students, staff and community members. 
    • Develop and maintain relationships and communicate with elected officials and other policy makers, and key business and community groups.
    • Possess strong interpersonal skills including a personal style of visibility, accessibility, friendliness and professionalism.
    • Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in budgeting and school finance.
     
    REQUIREMENTS
     
    The Board of Education will consider applications from individuals who:
    • Hold an Ohio Superintendent’s license.
    • Experience as a Superintendent is preferred.
