Family Engagement/School Climate Specialist
South Windsor High School
South Windsor Public Schools is seeking applicants for a Family Engagement/School Climate Specialist at South Windsor High School for the 2025-26 school year. The successful candidate will work closely with school and district administration to create a welcoming school environment and create meaningful opportunities to support South Windsor Public Schools’ goal of increasing family engagement. This role reports to the building administrators and the Director of Equity and Inclusion.
Responsibilities for the Family Engagement/School Climate Specialist include, but are not limited to:
- Promote respect and understanding for ethnic, cultural, and linguistic diversity
- Plan, coordinate, and implement family engagement programming/service workshops
- Identify and promote parent and community volunteers
- Work closely with marginalized students/families to ensure they receive continued support for their educational goals.
- Communicate effectively with administration, teachers, students, and families
- Work proactively with administrators and school staff to create a welcoming school environment
- Identify resources that connect and engage families in support of student learning, behavior, and school attendance.
- Develop and implement strategies to monitor and improve student attendance. Including, but not limited to:
- Participating in school-based attendance teams;
- Working closely with families to understand and address barriers to regular attendance;
- Organizing workshops on the importance of attendance;
- Collaborating with school staff to provide necessary support and interventions for chronically absent students.
- Facilitate communication between school and families regarding student progress, school-wide goals, and supports.
- Develop student success plans.
- Develop and support family-focused events to strengthen home-school partnerships.
- Serve as a liaison to connect families with community resources, social services, and support networks
- Daily Check and Connect with identified students
- Work closely with school counselors, social workers, and administrators to support family needs and foster student achievement
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, social work, or a related field (preferred)
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with school staff, students, parents, and community stakeholders
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills and superior communication skills (oral and written)
- Ability to plan programs, implement policies and procedures, and develop priorities
- Experience working with confidential and sensitive information
- Ability to prioritize daily tasks and meet timely obligations
Work Year: The work year with consist of 210 days total. The schedule will consist of all student days and professional development days (186 days). The remaining days will also consist of the five work days prior to convocation and five days after the last day of school. The remaining 14 workdays will be scheduled collaboratively between the building principal, the Director of Equity and Inclusion, and the Family Engagement/School Climate Specialist.
