Early Intervention Teaching Assistant I 

POSITION GOAL: The Early Intervention Teaching Assistant I provides supervision and instructional activities forchildren with developmental delays; does related work as required.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY/SUPERVISION: The Early Intervention Teaching Assistant I is responsible for carrying out group and individual instruction of children as outlined in the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).  Work is 
performed under the daily supervision of the classroom teacher with training and oversight provided by a consulting Early Intervention Specialist.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
(Positions may consist of some or all of the following duties.)
1.   Prepare activities (e.g. snack, art) as directed through daily schedule or supervisor instruction.
2.   Implement group and individual activities designed to encourage development in the areas of communication, cognitive, self-help, social, and motor skills.
3.   Provide specialized assistance with feeding, toileting, and delegated nursing tasks, including (but not limited to) medication administration, tube feeding, output measuring, and catheterization.
4.   Follow instructions of related service professionals regarding positioning, use of wheelchairs, communication boards, or other adaptive devices.
5.   Implement language and motor therapy goals as directed by therapists, and report progress regularly.
6.   Supervise children at all times to ensure a safe learning experience.
7.   Assist with preparation and clean up of the facility including dishwashing, vacuuming, and other light housekeeping tasks.
8.   Maintain attendance, goal tracking sheets, and other charting as required.
9.   Participate as member of curriculum and goal planning team.
10. Attend trainings as required.
11. Comply with EI/ECSE and ESD rules and policies.
12. Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM PREREQUISITES:
1.   High school graduation or equivalency and at least one year experience caring for children.
2.   Knowledge of classroom and individual behavior management techniques, language strategies, and developmentally appropriate practices.
3.   Application of safety practices, laws, rules and regulations, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
4.   Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, learn through hands-on experiences; communicate effectively and establish effective working relationships with other employees, related service professionals, and parents; develop nurturing and supportive relationships with children; and recognize changing needs of children and respond appropriately.
5.   Sign language skills helpful.
6.   With training, operation of computers or other augmentative communication devices, wheelchairs, or other positioning or adaptive devices.
7.   Must obtain First Aid and CPR certification within sixty (60) days of employment.
8.   Pass a background check and maintain enrollment in the Child Care Division Criminal History registry.

LENGTH OF POSITION:  190 days (academic year)
PAY:  Per Collective Bargaining Agreement: $16.94/hr - $20.27/hr for 2024-2025 school year.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Early Intervention Specialist III

Early Intervention Teaching Assistant III

POSITION GOAL:
The Early Intervention Teaching Assistant III works as a part of the team providing classroom and/or home instruction to children with developmental delays.
 
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY/SUPERVISION:
The Early Intervention Teaching Assistant III spends the majority of time in direct contact with children, in either individual or small group settings.  Some work may be performed independently in a child’s home.  Working under the direction of an Early Intervention Specialist, the Early Intervention Teaching Assistant III implements Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) objectives designed to remediate delays in areas of motor, cognitive, self-help, social and language development.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
(Positions may consist of some or all of the following duties.)
• Provide small group instruction in socialization, motor, cognitive, self-help and language development.
• Provide individualized instruction in cognitive, self-help, motor, social and language development.
• Accurately record data on children's progress on IFSP objectives daily, in accordance with IFSPs.
• Supervise children at all times, during structured activities, free play, or snack/lunch time.
• Under the direction of a therapist, prepare materials for and implement specialized motor and communication programs (e.g., phonology group and motor groups).
• Assist with purchasing and preparation of snack.
• Plan, organize, and lead weekly art projects, music activities or circle time activities.
• Under the direction of teacher or specialist, implement home or classroom based individualized instruction programs for young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
• In the absence of the Early Intervention Associate, act as designated lead assistant in the preschool or toddler classroom.
• Assist the Early Intervention Specialist in ensuring a clean, safe and attractive environment is maintained
• Participate as member of curriculum and goal planning team.   
• Attend trainings as required.
• Attend IFSP meetings as requested. 
• Assist with the collection of data for developmental assessments of children. 
• Comply with EI/ECSE and ESD rules and policies. 
• Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation. 
• Perform other duties as assigned.
  MINIMUM PREREQUISITES:
1. Requires a CDA or AA degree in related field and at least one year experience working with children with special needs including children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, or any suitable combination of training and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the above described duties.
2. Experience with developmental delays, developmentally appropriate practices and behavior management techniques.
3. Ability to establish effective relationships with children, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and other involved persons.
4. Must demonstrate competency in the use of specialized instructional techniques including, (but not limited to) PECS, PRT, DTT and TEACCH.
5. Ability to follow directions and to exercise appropriate independent judgment as called for.
6. Ability to work in a structured setting and to deal with stress/pressure.
7. Must obtain First Aid and CPR Certification within sixty (60) days of employment.
8. Possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License and a safe driving record.
9. Pass a background check and maintain enrollment in the Child Care Division Criminal History registry.
 
LENGTH OF POSITION:  1.0 FTE / 190 day calendar (academic year)
PAY:  Per Collective Bargaining Agreement: $18.53/hr to $22.19/hr for 2024-2025 school year.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Early Intervention Associate

Salary:  Per licensed collective bargaining agreement for 2024-2025 school year: $56,964 to $98,865 annually.

POSITION GOAL:
The Lead SLP oversees the daily operation of early intervention/early childhood special education therapy services, supporting staff, and providing direct and consultative services in the area of speech and language development for infants/toddlers/preschoolers with developmental delays and their families.
 
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY/SUPERVISION:
The Lead SLP works with teaching assistants, preschool teachers, therapists, and other specialists to ensure the coordinated and effective delivery of speech-language and other therapy services to infants/toddlers/preschoolers with developmental delays.  Through this team of people, the Lead SLP is responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of evaluations, as well as direct, and consultative therapy services, departmental processes and procedures.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
(Positions may consist of some or all of the following duties.)
1. Assist the Supervisor of Early Intervention Services regarding training needs, personnel actions, and evaluations of therapy personnel.
2. Determine schedules, assign duties, and provide ongoing direction to Speech Language Pathologists, Speech Language Pathology Assistants and Occupational Therapists.
3. Design and evaluate therapy services; develop and implement procedures to address clinical practice issues.  
4. Conduct assessments/evaluations of children’s speech, language, and oral-motor functioning and complete written transdisciplinary evaluations.
5. Develop measurable, functional IFSP goals and objectives and individual programs for addressing communication delays and coach classroom staff, parents, and community preschool staff in their implementation.  
6. Monitor requirements of and changes to, procedures for billing of related services for Speech Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy. On-going monitoring of billing submitted by therapy staff.
7. Consult with the staff at assigned sites, providing information on the children's disabilities, assessments, IFSPs, goals related to communication needs, and curricular adaptations.  Locate specialized equipment and other resources as necessary.
8. Provide support and coaching to families in understanding and coping with their child’s communication needs and to assist family members in supporting their child’s communication development.
9. Participate in team planning, model development, training and problem resolution regarding child, family, staff, and team needs. 
10. Comply with EI/ECSE and ESD rules and policies. 
11. Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation. 
12. Perform other duties as assigned.  
 
MINIMUM PREREQUISITES:
 
1. Master's degree in Communication Disorders.
2. A minimum of five years experience providing Speech Therapy services to infants/toddlers/preschoolers with developmental delays and their families.
3. At least one year experience coaching and directing staff.
4. Must hold required Oregon licensure in speech-language pathology, possess a certificate of clinical competency from the American Speech and Hearing Association, and meet professional competencies required by the Department of Education for supervisor authorization.
5. Possess general knowledge of developmental disabilities assessments, program development and implementation, behavior management techniques, and developmentally appropriate curriculum.
6. Demonstrated team leadership skills, including group facilitation to develop program goals and respond to problems and opportunities.
7. Ability to work independently.
8. Ability to communicate effectively, in writing and verbally, and to establish effective working relationships with children and their families, as well as with staff, health care professionals, and community agencies.
9. Ability to prepare clear, concise reports and other documents required by policy or regulation.
10. Willingness to travel and to be based at various sites.
11. Must obtain First Aid certification within sixty (60) days of employment.
12. Pass a background check and maintain enrollment in the Child Care Division Criminal History registry.
