    Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School in West Seattle seeks a highly qualified Middle School Science Specialist, starting in August 2025. Our school serves Preschool thru 8th grade students in an inclusive Catholic school environment. We are committed to our mission: "OLG fosters Gospel values, inspires academic excellence, and develops service and leadership.     The successful candidate will teach science to the school's 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and will have a passion for outdoor education, ecology and sustainability. They will have strong classroom management, and commitment to professional growth. They will additionally serve as the homeroom teacher for one middle school class, and will be able to collaborate with a strong middle school team of teachers. 

    The successful candidate will have the skill and enthusiasm to step into a strong science program and take it to the next level. Candidates should hold Washington state teaching credentials or the equivalent from another state. OLG School seeks highly qualified applicants with a degree in the sciences or a science endorsement; teaching experience preferred. A preference will be given to candidates who are practicing Catholics. 

     

    Qualifications include:

     
    • Classroom management experience

    • Strong organizational and communication skills 

    • Skill in fostering curiosity, critical thinking and problem solving

    • Depth of knowledge in content area; strong familiarity with the Next Generation Science Standards

    • Hands-on, inquiry based approach

    • Genuine interest in and ability to connect with middle school students

    • Commitment to meeting the needs of diverse learners

    • Ability to connect faith and Catholic Social Teaching with current issues in science and in middle school. 

    • Mission-aligned and a desire to work in an authentic Catholic community.

    • Experience in using technology as a tool for teaching, learning, and communication

    • Facility in incorporating the Common Core ELA Standards for Science and Technical Subjects in content area reading, research, and written projects

    • Ability to collaborate in a team situation

     

    This position includes partnering between 6th and 1st grade to raise and release salmon in a local creek; organizing a multi-day environmental education experience at Camp Hamilton; facilitating a year long ecological service project; coordinating the middle school science fair and other outdoor science learning opportunities. This position also involves a commitment to service learning while coordinating with fellow teachers on school and class projects.     Salary and Benefits:

     
    • Compensation includes competitive benefits and salary commensurate with experience. Base Salary range: $56,000 - $85,207 

    • Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications. 

    • Benefits include a comprehensive package of medical plan options, dental, vision, life, accidental death and disability, long term disability, pension, 403(b), HSA, FSA, and generous sick leave, vacation, and holidays.
