DESCRIPTION: Perform routine cleaning duties and does related work as required.
 
REQUIREMENTS: Familiarity with building cleaning supplies and equipment. Must have the ability to understand and follow simple written and oral directions.
 
Work can include but not limited to the following:
 
· sweep and mop floors
 
· wash windows, blackboards, and lavatory fixtures
 
· dust woodwork, furniture, and other articles
 
· replenishes lavatory supplies
 
· strip and wax floors
 
· vacuum carpets
 
· replaces light bulbs
 
· shovel snow
 
· sets temperature controls (thermostats) as assigned
 
It is our expectation that you be on call and available to sub 75% of the time when we reach out to you with an assignment.

The Scarsdale Public Schools are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Cleaner. 

SALARY: CSEA Salary Schedule
HOURS: Monday-Friday, 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
DESCRIPTION: Perform routine cleaning duties and do related work as required.
REQUIREMENTS: Familiarity with building cleaning supplies and equipment. Must have the ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently enough to perform the position's essential functions. 
START DATE: ASAP

Work can include, but is not limited to, the following:
• Sweep, mop, strip, and wax floors
• Vacuum carpets
• Wash windows
• Empty trash
• Dust woodwork, furniture, and other articles
• Clean lavatories and replenish supplies
• Replace light bulbs
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment
• Ability to lift items up to 50 pounds
• Shovel snow
• Set thermostats as assigned
 
Equipment

Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, and shovels.


Safety Requirements

Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties.
Wears appropriate safety gear, including masks.
Must comply with the school district's chemical hygiene program and follow MSDS sheets.


Travel Requirements

Occasional travel between schools, or between schools and central office, may be required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
 
• Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with principal and others.
• Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff members contacted in the course of work.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
• Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
• Ability to work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts.
• Ability to perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor(s).
 

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
 
• Works in standard office and school building environments.
• Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, grasses, pollens, etc.
 

Qualifications Profile:
 
• Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would qualify.
• Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance is desirable.
• Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation.

Scarsdale Schools is seeking an experienced candidate for the position of Maintenance Mechanic - Buildings SALARY:  CSEA Salary Schedule HOURS:  Monday - Friday, 6:00 am to 12:30 pm Job Description:  Under general supervision, this position Performs routine electrical maintenance, repair and installation work, such as repairing and/or replacing electrical fixtures, installing simple electrical circuits.  Replaces and/or rebuilds new stairways, repairs or replaces roofs on small structures, repairs or replaces stairs and porch steps, railings and flooring. Does miscellaneous carpentry repair work, such as replacing door hardware and closers, repairing/installing doors, trimwork, simple cabinet builds, and repairs. Repair/install new framing, sheetrock, and all associated work. Performs routine plumbing maintenance, repair, and installation work, such as repairing and/or replacing plumbing fixtures. Cleans stopped-up drains and does other emergency plumbing repair work. Assists in the maintenance of the District's heating plant and all associated work. Performs general repair work to floor and wall time of all types. Will take part in general small-scale new work along with the maintenance of existing work. This is a non-competitive class civil service position. MINIMUM REQUIREMENT: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and a minimum of four (4) years of experience in building and mechanical installation, maintenance or repair work required. SUBSTITUTIONS:  An Associates' Degree in Applied Science or possession of a certificate from a postsecondary vocational school in building or mechanical trades may be substituted for two (2) years of work experience described above.
