Position Title: Speech-Language Pathology Assistant
Terms of Employment: 183 days per year
Qualifications:
Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Certification required
Experience working with students ages 3-21 in various environments a plus.
Reports to: Speech-Language Pathologist
Evaluation: Annual by Speech/Language Pathologist
Job Goal: To provide support and services to students who are educationally disabled in the area of speech/language and/or to non-coded students who are in need of speech/language services under the supervision of the Speech Language Pathologist.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Exhibit a well-rounded knowledge of Speech and Language development.
- Conduct screenings of students in the communication skills area to determine the need for intervention and/or further assessment.
- Provide pertinent information for the development of IEPs, including the student's present level of performance and suggestions for specific goals and objectives.
- Ability to creatively utilize a variety of materials to address a student's specific needs.
- Regularly communicate with and submit progress reports to case managers in a timely fashion.
- Maintain and submit Medicaid logs, as required.
- Exhibit flexibility in terms of creating a daily schedule and sharing workspace.
- Contribute to the upkeep of files and inventory.
- Recognize the need for professional guidance and seek out the appropriate methods for improving areas of concern.
- Participate in conferences/in-service presentations pertinent to student needs, share the information attained with colleagues and integrate the new information and/or techniques into individualized therapy programs.
- Communicate effectively via meetings, telephone contact, e-mail, memos, etc.
- Attend monthly departmental meetings.
- Collaborate effectively with school staff, families, physicians and outside agencies, as needed.
- Keep the department members informed regarding pertinent issues.
- Maintain confidentiality and a professional manner.
