$20/hour DOQ, 1-4 hours/week: 1 hour class offering; Days and Times TBD
Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Fitness Class Instructor is responsible for designing and leading a safe, efficient, and enjoyable workout for all participants. A WERQ Fitness instructor leads high-energy, dance-based cardio classes that blend hip-hop, pop, and contemporary music. They motivate participants through fund, easy-to-follow choreography while encouraging confidence, fitness, and a sense of community. WERQ instructors are upbeat, supportive, and passionate about helping people achieve their fitness goals while having a blast!
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Must be 16 years old
- The ability to perform the essential functions
- An interest in working in the recreation industry
- An ability to listen and follow directions
- An understanding of the principles of customer service and client relations
- An understanding of the principles of risk management and safety
- Possess a high school diploma
- Certification as a Group Exercise Instructor (A.C.E., A.F.A.A., or N.E.T.A. acceptable)
- Ability to demonstrate high quality instruction
- First Aid and CPR certification
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks:
- Leading appropriate exercise activities, which includes designing, teaching, and demonstrating exercise
based on the principles of exercise physiology - Implementing proper procedures in the event of an emergency, which includes administering CPR and First
Aid as needed - Keeping accurate records, which includes taking attendance, and administering participant evaluations as
assigned - Providing music for the activities
- Promoting registration for fitness classes, which includes making announcements, distributing flyers, and
conducting registration during special promotions - Reporting for duty as scheduled
- Participating in all pre-employment and in-service training
- Upholding the policies and standards of the Roselle Park District
- Demonstrating high levels of customer care and service
- Upholding and enforcing all risk management and safety goals and procedures
- Demonstrating good judgment
- Providing adequate pre-class instruction, which includes explanation and demonstration of the
movements, description of the goals and methods of the class, and answering questions - Frequent coaching to the participants during the exercise, which includes verbal praising, individual
correction of technique, monitoring effort and performance - Making modifications for participants with lower fitness levels or limited physical ability
- Monitoring participants for symptoms of over-exertion and making adjustments for that individual
- Demonstrating a variety of motivational strategies which encourage participants to do their best and to
continue in future classes - Other related duties as assigned
