Position: 7th and 8th PBL Science Teacher
School Year: 2025-2026
Reports to: Dean of Instruction and Building Leadership Team
Purpose Statement: To inspire students to love learning by making science connections to our
local area, building relationships with students, and teaching engaging, high-quality lessons in
middle school science through Place-Based Learning strategies.
Overview: The teacher is responsible for designing and executing highly engaging science
place-based learning units that go beyond just the facts to deeply explore science standards
and investigate real-world problems with a student-centered focus. PBL engages students by
requiring them to use critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. Students
demonstrate their learning in a cumulative unit project that is shared with a broader audience.
Designing PBL units requires intensive planning, resourcefulness, creativity, and passion for
bringing science to life!
Essential Duties and Performance Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and teach highly engaging 7th and 8th-grade science units that align with Colorado Academic Standards and connect students to Place.
- Design and plan Place-Based learning units that connect science standards to our local area.
- Use the Understanding by Design model to backward plan and create meaningful learning units that connect students to place.
- Build relationships with students and staff to ensure an inclusive and supportive learning environment and work culture.
- Use your knowledge of student performance and personality to provide rigorous and engaging learning experiences for all students.
- Lead a daily Unidad to start the day to build relationships with students and support learning of important social-emotional skills.

Work Requirements and Characteristics:
Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree
License/Certification: Colorado Teacher License or the ability to obtain
Terms of Employment: Twelve-month position. Competitive salary ranging from $57,165-
$82,277
2024-2025 Salary Schedule (2025-2026 salary schedule will be updated this spring)
Evaluation: Job performance is evaluated annually by the Building Leadership Team
FLSA Status: Exempt
Working Environment/Physical Activities: Work is generally performed in a classroom
environment. Travel with students may be required. While performing the duties of this job, the
employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or grasp objects;
and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and
stoop, kneel, crouch, balance or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10
pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near and far vision, depth
perception, color, and the ability to adjust focus.
