SP. ED. SELF CONTAINED
The Pawtucket School Department is seeking candidates who are knowledgeable and experienced in the areas of teaching students with Autism and in behavioral supports, techniques, and management. Two secondary special educators/case managers are being sought to teach in small specialized, highly structured settings in our elementary schools. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge and application of Positive Behavioral Supports, the use of Functional Behavior Assessment, Behavior Intervention Plans, and specialized instruction needed to teach students with multiple challenges.
Provide specialized and individualized instruction for students with disabilities, consistent state education requirements, and the student's IEP.
Positive professional and respectful conduct when communicating with professionals, students, and parents.
On-going documentation of student progress, lesson planning, and communication with both parents and professionals
Participate in developing schedules for assigned caseload of students to ensure that all services required in the student’s IEP are accessed.
Development of IEPs for students in accordance with the IDEA, based on student evaluation results and student individualized needs.
Serve as a leader of the IEP team for assigned student caseload.
Supervision of Instructional Assistant assigned to the classroom.
Fulfill transition planning mandates for students 14-21 years old.
Attendance and participation in Common Planning with other teachers and staff.
Communicates effectively with the school community, parents, and administrators.
Works collaboratively with teachers, support personnel, parents and administrators in advocating for students and providing necessary accommodations and modifications, as outlined in student’s IEPs.
Attends school and district-level meetings and completes other related activities as required by the Administration
Maintains accurate and timely special education and student records.
Collaborates effectively with teams of professionals, students, and parents to problem-solve and resolve ongoing student concerns.
Participate as a member of the evaluation and RTI teams as pertains to assigned student caseload.
Monitor student progress on IEPs, Behavior Plans, and Common Core standards and report progress in a timely and effective manner to other members of the school team and parents.
Attendance in all mandated Professional Development opportunities.
Assumes other responsibilities as directed by the Special Education Director or Building Principal.
