NOTICE OF POSITION
POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Eric Jay Rosser, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:
NON-CERTIFIED SUBSTITUTE TEACHER FOR MUSIC
POUGHKEEPSIE CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have a High School Diploma;
Candidates must have 60 college credits in an educational field;
Candidates must be fingerprinted;
Candidates must complete a Frontline application to be considered for appointment.
DUTIES:

Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment and are intended to meet the educational needs of students when the regular teacher is absent.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Non-certified Substitute Teachers: - Strong classroom management skills, including the ability to effectively plan and run a large-ensemble rehearsal from both a management and a musical skill development standpoint.
- Ability to teach high school level group lessons on the various band instruments (within the woodwind, brass, and percussion families).
- Team player, able to quickly establish positive relationships with building administrators, faculty, and staff.
- Familiarity with high school level band literature
- Solid understanding of the developmental needs of high school students as well as the ability to constructively motivate and inspire their achievement and progress.
- Availability, ability, and willingness to teach jazz ensemble, Thursdays, after school until 4 p.m.
- Are required to follow the established curriculum and lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher;
- Should check in at the main office of their assigned school location with the Principal’s secretary’
- Should report to the school office at the time listed in the AESOP substitute system, ans are required to stay ten minutes after school ending time;
- Are required to stay for the entire workday as scheduled by AESOP;
- Must comply with all district and building procedures and schedules;
- Must follow the lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular classroom teacher they are filling in for;
- Assumes responsibility for overseeing classroom management;
- Should not leave students unsupervised at any time;
- Are expected to move around the classroom spending time instructing and helping students.
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be conducted where appropriate.
SALARY:
Daily Rate: $150/day
