NOTICE OF POSITION
POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Eric Jay Rosser, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of: SPRING SPORTS - CREW ASSISTANT COACHES (2)
POUGHKEEPSIE CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED: - Applicants must be a certified teacher and/or hold a NYS coaching license in specific sport;
- Three workshops (Child Abuse, Violence Prevention, DASA)
- Hold a valid NYS CPS, AED, First Aid Certification
DUTIES:
The Poughkeepsie City School District (PCSD) is committed to providing students and parents with pathways to opportunity that will lead to achievement and success. Candidates should have knowledge of the technical and strategic aspects of the game as well as current trends in the sport. Previous coaching experience is preferred but not required. Candidates are responsible for coaching student athletes in character development and enhancing the student athletes abilities in the sport, both on and off the field. Must be able to motivate players, recruit and display positive leadership skills for our student athletes.
General Functions and Duties: - Provides direct assistance to student athletes by enforcing academic policies and procedures unique to the Poughkeepsie City School District. To assist student athletes by guiding them in decision making and how to accept responsibility for their decisions and academic progress;
- Monitors and helps ensure that all student athletes maintain satisfactory progress toward their diplomas and assist with monitoring academic eligibility to compete in athletic events;
- Assists faculty and enforces attendance policies established by PCSD by monitoring each student athlete’s academic progress during the semester, contacting and assisting student athletes who have been reported by faculty for excessive absences, providing follow up information regarding excessive absences to faculty, and informing coaches of student-athletes academic performance;
- Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with others or backgrounds.
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials, and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be conducted where appropriate.
