This substitute will support English Learners by teaching half the day and providing in-class assistance in core subject areas for the other half for the remainder of the 2024-2026 school year.

Approximate dates of assignment: January 6 - May 23, 2025
• Long-term Substitute Teacher pay: The first 5 days pay is $143.70 a day or $19.16 an hour. On the 6th day, pay increases to $23.96 an hour ($179.70 a day). This does not include the 3 days of training before the long-term position starts. (A full day for a Substitute Teacher is 7.5 hours a day. If a Substitute Teacher works 6.5 hours a day they are paid the full $143.70. If a Substitute works less than 6.5 hours a day, they are paid hourly.)
• Retired Teacher Substitute pay is $195.00 a day or $26.00 an hour. A full day for a Substitute Teacher is 7.5 hours a day. If a Retired Teacher serving as a Substitute Teacher works 6.5 hours a day they are paid the full $195.00. If a Substitute works less than 6.5 hours a day, they are paid hourly.  This rate applies to a retired teacher serving as a long-term substitute as well.

JOB GOAL: The custodial staff is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitized and attractive learning environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Interpret instructions in written documentation or given orally such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals in English.
2. Perform major cleaning tasks such as, but not limited, to vacuuming, wet mopping, sweeping, dusting, emptying trash, recycle material and pencil sharpeners, cleaning chalkboards or white boards, and disinfecting drinking fountains and surfaces.
3. Clean all indoor facilities including floors, walls, windows and surfaces in all rooms and hallways.
4. Clean restrooms, including floors and all fixtures (i.e., urinals, toilets, sinks, mirrors, partitions, and counters) ensure restrooms are hygienic.
5. Restock disposable items such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.
6. Use cleaning materials and techniques as directed.
7. Perform ongoing tasks such as replacing light bulbs, filling dispensers, and setting up facilities for student and adult use.
8. Make minor building repairs and promptly report major repairs needed to the building administrator.
9. Ensure that all doors and windows are appropriately locked.
10. Assist in major clean-up in summer, such as washing desks and chairs, washing down walls, stripping and waxing floors.
11. Required to Time Clock System for clocking in and out each day they are scheduled to work. Clocking must reflect true time worked.
12. Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the district.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Pull weeds, keep grounds free of rubbish and in winter shovel snow from steps and sidewalks and apply ice melt when appropriate.
2. Must have the ability to write legibly and complete requested paperwork or reports on time.
3. Respond to requests from staff members.
4. Must maintain a positive demeanor, and use appropriate language, and maintain a professional relationship with students, faculty, administration and community patrons.
5. Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress, and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.
6. Attend meetings as scheduled by supervisors and District administrators.
7. Adheres to good safety practices.
8. Adheres to all district rules, regulations, and policies.
9. All other duties as required or assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing job functions employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects tools or controls and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach, climb, bend, squat, stoop and kneel. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp and use tools, and climb ladders. The employee will use a 20 pound vacuum daily for 3 - 4 hours, push or pull items such desks, tables, bleachers and scrubbing machines. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally the employee will lift or move up to 90 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close and peripheral vision and depth perception.

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works indoors and occasionally works outdoors in extreme temperatures of below 32 degrees and above 100 degrees. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level is usually moderate but can occasionally be loud.

Substitute Teacher applicants require a Substitute or Missouri Teaching certification. Once the background check has cleared and certification is obtained the applicant will be invited to onboard. 

Background check - You must have a current background clearance using the Platte County 4-digit number (see below) and is no older than 365 days. Go to machs.mo.gov to complete the online piece of your background check. The fee is $44.75. Once you have your background confirmation number you will make an appointment to have your picture and fingerprints taken. Per Board policy GBEBC:applicants for employment are responsible for the cost of the criminal background check.

• Substitute Teacher applicants who already have a Missouri Teaching Certification - 1628
 
Substitute Teacher Certification:
If you don't already have a teaching certification please apply for a substitute certificate. If you have a teaching certification you do not need a substitute certification. DESE charges $50.00 for a four-year substitute certificate.

Substitute Pay
 
• Substitute Teacher and Paraprofessional Substitute pay is $133.65 a day or $17.82 an hour. A full day for a Substitute Teacher is 7.5 hours a day. If a Substitute Teacher works 6.5 hours a day they are paid the full $133.65. If a Substitute works less than 6.5 hours a day, they are paid hourly.
•  Retired Teacher Substitute pay is $187.50 a day or $25  an hour. A full day for a Substitute Teacher is 7.5 hours a day. If a Retired Teacher serving as a Substitute Teacher works 6.5 hours a day they are paid the full $187.50. If a Substitute works less than 6.5 hours a day, they are paid hourly.  This rate applies to a retired teacher serving as a long-term substitute as well.
 
Substitutes are paid on the 10th and 25th of each month. If the 10th or the 25th falls on a holiday or weekend, payday is the last business day prior to the 10th or 25th. All substitutes will be paid by direct deposit. Substitutes will clock their time.
