GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties of athletic trainer include, but are not limited to: prevention, recognition, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate and emergency care, treatment rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries. As well as the organization and professional health and well-being of each athlete. The athletic trainer serves as a liaison between physicians, coaches, athletes and parents and works under the direct supervision of the team physician as stated in the standard written protocol.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Maintain current certification and continuing education requirements set forth by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification. Maintain current state licensure in accordance with Arizona Board of Athletic Training. Maintain current certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED/Health Care Provider. Maintain current fingerprint clearance card as set forth by the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety. Maintain expertise through continuing education and professional development.
MAJOR DUTIES:
1. Determine an athlete’s readiness to participate.
2. Communication with athletic director, coaches and parents.
3. Promote safe and appropriate practice, competition and treatment facilities.
4. Advice on the selection, fit, and function of sports medicine equipment.
5. Assist with proper fitting of football helmets when required.
6. Develop and implement a comprehensive emergency action plan.
7. Establish protocols regarding environmental conditions.
8. Develop injury and illness prevention strategies.
9. Provide for on-site recognition, evaluation and immediate treatment of injury and illness, with appropriate referrals.
10. Coordinate daily treatment, evaluations, and rehabilitation of athletes.
11. Design and supervise rehabilitation and reconditioning programs.
12. Provide for psychosocial consultation and referral.
13. Provide scientifically sound nutritional counseling and education.
14. Participate in development and implementation of comprehensive athletic health care administrative system (e.g. personal health information, policies and procedures, insurance, referrals)
15. Maintain permanent injury and treatment records regarding athletic injuries, and referrals
16. Coordinate daily treatment, evaluations and rehabilitation of athletes.
17. Maintain organization, inventory and requisition of athletic training supplies.
18. Travel with the varsity football team to all regular and post season games.
19. Travel with all sports in state tournaments when necessary.
20. Be on-site for all home games and in-season weekday practices excluding holidays.
POSITION TITLE: CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINER (NON-TEACHING)
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduation from an accredited college or university while successfully passing NATABOC certification exam.
2. Possess leadership and decision-making skills.
3. Knowledge of district rules and policies.
4. Professional communication and relationships with staff, coaches, athletes and parents.
