  •   DESCRIPTION: Special Education Access Teacher - Peach County High School
    PAY SCALE/TYPE: Teacher, Exempt
    RETIREMENT: TRS
    WORK YEAR: 10 months/190 Days
    REPORTS TO: Principal
    JOB SUMMARY: The teacher is responsible for leading students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
     
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
    1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
     
    2. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conductive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
     
    3. Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
     
    4. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
     
    5. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
     
    6.  Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
     
    7. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
     
    8. Evaluates student progress on a regular basis.
      
    9.  Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
     
    10.  Participates in faculty and professional meetings, professional learning, and other trainings.

    11. Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
     
    12. Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
     
    13. Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
     
    14.  Communicates effectively with students, parents or guardians, district and school personnel, and other state holders in ways that enhance student learning.
     
    15. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
      
    16. Provides for his own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, an/or advances course work at institutions of higher learning.
     
    17. Demonstrates knowledge of the eligibility process.
     
    18. Develops, implements, monitors, and regularly reviews the Individual Education Program (IEPs) of each student on their caseload.
     
    19. Compiles, maintains, and submits accurate paperwork within designated timelines.
     
    20. Collaborates with the general education teacher and/or related services staff to provide special education services that maximize student achievement according to the guidelines of the program through established service delivery models.
     
    21. Demonstrates knowledge of research-based practices by delivering specialized instruction to students according to their Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
     
    22. Adheres to district special education policies and procedures and federal regulations/state rules.
     
    23.  Assumes any other duties assigned by the Principal.
     
    Qualifications: The individual must be able to perform each essential job duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed to perform the job at a fully acceptable level.
     
    Education, Experience, and/or Certification:
    • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or the designated subject area. Advanced degree a plus.
    • Must hold or be eligible to hold a valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission Clearance Certificate and Georgia Professional Teaching Certificate in Special Education.
    • Demonstrated experience in the knowledge and teaching of the content area.
    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

    Must serve as a role model to students. Desirable personal characteristics are required. Appropriate dress and grooming consistent with established standards required. Must be at work on time. Must meet attendance standards. Must conduct activities safely.
     
    Physical Requirements:
    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, stand, bend, and lift. Occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel. The employee must be able to exert or lift up to 50 pounds. Some positions require the ability to move wheelchairs and related equipment and to assist in the relocation of students.
