Agriculture Teacher - Pulaski County High School 2025-2026

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in agricultural education or a related field and a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in agricultural education. Practical experience in agriculture is valued, but not necessary, and participation in ongoing professional development is required. This role plays a key part in fostering an appreciation for agriculture’s role in Virginia’s economy and environment.
An Agriculture Teacher in Virginia educates students about agricultural sciences and practices, preparing them for careers or further studies in the field. This role involves developing and delivering a curriculum, centered around state-approved competencies, covering plant and animal science, agricultural mechanics, horticulture, soil management, and agribusiness. The teacher creates engaging lesson plans, conducts hands-on activities in classrooms, labs, or outdoor settings like greenhouses or farms, and assesses student progress through assignments, projects, and exams. They supervise extracurricular programs, such as the Future Farmers of America (FFA), guiding students in leadership development and practical agricultural experiences.
Beyond instruction, the teacher maintains a safe and productive learning environment, adhering to state educational standards and safety regulations. They collaborate with school staff, industry professionals, and community members to enhance the program and stay current on agricultural trends and technologies. Strong communication, organizational, and teaching skills and a passion for agriculture and student success are essential.
