PURPOSE:
Effective teaching has always been a complex process; as our curriculum adapts to meet the skills our students will need to be successful in the future, there are significant implications for teachers. Student centered communication strategies, methods like problem-based learning and project-based learning allow students to collaborate, work on authentic problems, and engage with the community. Teaching our students to think, work together better and use information more rigorously will be vital. These methods will require teachers to be knowledgeable about a broad range of topics and make in-the-moment decisions about lesson design. Using our PLC model, collaboration for teachers will be essential in shifting from whole class instruction to student-centered methods. Providing support for our teachers and students will be key as we look to sustain our highly effective teaching staff and sustain high student achievement.
 
The ELL teacher will collaborate with the ELL team and grade level PLC’s to ensure success for the ELL learners both in their general education classes and during periods of direct ELL or bilingual instruction.
 
The ELL teacher will report to the Professional Learning and Curriculum Director.
 
Overall Goals:
•       Meet the needs of our English Language Learner needs via differentiated instruction that supports core instruction in both the general education and ELL settings
•       Instill a love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information
•       Collaborate with general education staff
 
The specific responsibilities of the ELL teacher are outlined below under areas of responsibility:
a.      Instructional Design: Students acquire, evaluate, and use information effectively through instructional strategies designed to meet learner needs
b.     Collaborative Planning: Students are encouraged to become lifelong learners through the collaboration with teachers and the community
c.       Instruction in Literacy, Oral Language, Written Expression: ELL teacher will consider student’s level identified through WIDA ACCESS test in planning instruction (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing)
d.      Assessment for Learning: Student learning is assessed in collaboration with classroom teachers, utilizing data
e.       Teaching for Diverse Learning Needs: All ELL students must have access to the core curriculum
f.     Inquiry Learning: Independent learners ask questions, evaluate information to improve understanding, and develop social responsibility and strategies for self assessment
g.     Academic language: students are expected to use academic language via teaching scaffold and the use of the four language domains (listening, speaking, reading and writing)
h.      Social Learning: Students develop skill in sharing knowledge and learning with others both in face-to-face situations and through technology
i.      Social Responsibility: Students seek multiple perspectives and use information and ideas expressed in any format in a safe, responsible, and ethical manner
j.      Resources and Materials: Student needs for learning resources are met through well developed collections of materials in a variety of formats
k.      Equitable Access: Students have flexible and equitable access to resources that support their academic and personal learning and meet diverse learning needs
l.     Program Planning and Evaluation:  Work collaboratively with ELL team to maximize learning and instructional opportunities for cohorts of students at varying levels across grades
 
Required: ELL certification or endorsement or bilingual certification

 A classroom teacher will be responsible for all domains of the Danielson Framework, including Content and Pedagogy, Classroom Environment, Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities.  As part of the Park View community, the classroom teacher will be responsible for not only actively engaging students in Common Core aligned instruction, but also being an active member of a professional learning community.
 
Overall Goals:
• Ensure that students are demonstrating growth in the classroom learning targets
• Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information
• Instill a love of learning in all students
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the best possible instruction for all students
• Monitor the effective classroom management
 
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to: 
 
-    Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, to students in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.

-     Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
• Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc. 
• Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. 
• Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. 
• Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program. 
• Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, academic and emotional problems.
• Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers. 
•  Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities. 
•  Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines. 
•  Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records. 
• Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day. 
• Administers group standardized tests in accordance with state testing program. 
• Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
• Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. 
ALLOCATION: Full-Time

REPORTS TO: School Principal 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 
1. Act as educational leader for students participating in extra-curricular choral activities. 
2. Act as liaison between students, administration and parent booster groups (if applicable). 
3. Set rehearsal and performance schedules (Fall/Spring concerts, community performances) in cooperation with other school activities. 
4. Design content of extra-curricular activities. 
5. Coordinate communications/publicity for all related events. 
6. Coordinate auditions for extra-curricular activity. 
7. Plan field trips as appropriate within board policy. 
8. Arrange transportation related to extra-curricular events. 
9. Coordinate and facilitate concerts of extra-curricular activity. 
10. Coordinate fundraisers (if applicable) and maintain accurate records. 
11. Collaborate with Arts colleagues on arts related functions within the school
12. Coordinate and facilitate recruiting for the vocal music program. 
13. Choral rehearsals would meet on Wednesday and/or Friday, from 7:00am-8:30am.
