The Orono STRIVE program, offered in partnership with the Orono Rotary Club, matches adult mentors with Orono High School students. Mentors provide encouragement and support to help students discover their own strengths and take charge of their education, career and goals. Mentoring occurs once per month during the school day.
Meetings also include presentations on topics relevant to life after high school - post secondary education, careers, finances, etc.
Job Summary
- Volunteer mentors connect with students through discussions, experiential learning activities, exploring leadership skills and opportunities, help with post secondary preparation and more
- The role of the volunteer is to be a caring adult in the lives of students and to encourage them.
- The time commitment is 1 hour per month during the school day
- Volunteers work one-on-one with high school students, participate in group discussions and listen to guest speakers
