Position Title: Paraeducator
Classification: FLSA Non-Exempt
Expected Work Hours: Full-Time, 8:00AM-3:15 PM Monday-Fridays, 32.5 hours a week 10 months, School Calendar with possibility of up to 6 weeks in the summer
Reports to: Classroom Teacher and Program Coordinator
Position Purpose/Summary: Assist teacher in all activities in the classroom and stated in the Individual Education Plan (IEP). Follows the teacher’s lesson plans, supports students in special subject classes, collects data on student progress and implements all specially designed instruction for each student.
Expected Hours of Work: Instructional: Monday-Friday 8:00-3:15 - 6.5 hours per day/32.5 hours per week
Essential Functions:
Follows the IEP goals, and lesson plan throughout the day. Knows all students' programs and activities.
Follows all policies and procedures in employee handbook.
Follows IEP including communication systems, behavioral, feeding and therapy program.
Participates in scheduled meetings and in-service training when requested or required.
Responsible for Morning (AM) bus duty. May also be required to pick up students in residential program before bus duty.
Report to teacher for scheduled activities each day. This may include assisting with bulletin boards, copying materials, and making materials and data collection.
Assists in all activities involving children. This may include Art & Music; Physical Education classes swimming pool (unless excused with written medical certification). Note: No breaks are permitted during Physical Education classes or student lunchtime when assigned to work with a student.
Assists students with personal health and hygiene of the students, lunch preparation and lunch time activities.
Changing and removal soiled diapers/underwear.
Collects data on student progress
In the teacher's absence from the classroom, reinforce goals and objectives already instructed by the teacher.
Respects confidentiality of the students. Refrains from discussion of students or family issues with anyone except as determined appropriate by the Program Coordinator or school administration.
Maintain a minimum of 20 hours of training each school year.
Performs other duties as assigned by teacher, coordinator, or school administration. This may include being assigned to other classroom or program throughout the course of the school day.
Expected Skills:
CPR/First Aid certifications or the willingness to acquire it.
Valid Driver's License is required for most programs (for Full Time employees and desirable for Substitute Teacher Aides)
Other preferred skills: Braille, Sign language, and use of adaptive equipment for individuals with physical challenges including feeding tubes.
School to Work and High School may also include Job Coach and Employment Specialist positions
Qualifications: High school diploma + PA Paraeducator Certification or Associates Degree or two complete years from an accredited college or
university;
Experience: Experience working with special needs children is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Requires prolonged standing, walking, stooping, twisting and squatting on a constant basis.
Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
Working Environment Employees are subject to accidents and/or injuries, which may be incurred during the performance of the essential functions of the position. Work is primarily indoors but some outdoor activities may be required.
