Job Summary: The extended school year program meets the needs of intermediate special education students as they relate to regression/recoupment and or the emergence of critical life skills.

General Responsibilities/Duties: Assist teachers in meeting the needs of special education students as they relate to regression/recoupment and or the emergence of critical life skills.
 
Salary: In accordance with Article 7.11 of the ESSA Negotiated Agreement 
Program Dates: May 30 - June 26, 2025
Work Schedule: Part Time, Work Hours Determined by Supervisor
 
Job Qualifications
The following are required:
 
• Applicants must have one of the following: 48 hours of college credit, an associate degree or higher, or a high school diploma or equivalent with a passing score for the paraprofessional assessment. 

Physical and Mental Demands

The physical demands of this position require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Requires near vision to write and read printed materials and computer screens. Requires hearing and speaking to exchange information on the telephone or in person. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing up to 20 lbs. Must be able to use carts, ladders, dollies, and stools to assist in moving or shelving items. Requires sufficient arm, hand, finger dexterity to operate a keyboard and other office equipment. Repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers may also be required. Additionally, the employee must be able to communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.

Job Summary: Assists the teacher with the tutoring and supervision of students who may exhibit extreme emotional and behavioral problems. Performs auxiliary duties as assigned.

Hourly Rate: Grade 6: $20.77 - $23.21 DOE
Work Day: 7 hours
Work Year: 9 months
Bargaining Unit: Education Support Staff Association (ESSA)

Job Qualifications/Requirements (please review job description for qualifications and duties of the position):
 
1. Must meet one of the three qualifications:
   a. High school diploma, or equivalent, and have either completed or the ability to complete the ParaProfessional Assessment within four (4) months of hire; or
   b. Associate's degree or higher; or
   c. Completion of two years of higher education (at least 48 semester hours) or the equivalent.
2. Successful completion of de-escalation training and obtainment of a first aid card will be required within the first six (6) months of employment.
3. Must demonstrate an understanding of specialized needs and effective methods of working with ER students who may exhibit extreme emotional and behavioral problems.
4. Knowledge of basic reading, math, and curricula areas appropriate for age level of students required in English.
5. Must possess ability to communicate clearly and consistently with students, staff, and parents; to calm students who are upset or angry, defuse conflict situations; and to safely restrain out-of-control students who present a danger to self or others.

1. Must meet one of the three qualifications:
   1. High school diploma, or equivalent, and have either completed or the ability to complete the ParaProfessional Assessment within four (4) months of hire; or
   2. Associate’s degree or higher; or
   3. Completion of two years of higher education (at least 48 semester hours) or the equivalent.
2. Must possess an understanding of developmental disabilities.
3. Must demonstrate proper lifting skills in order to safely lift a minimum of 50 lbs. regularly.
4. Tutoring skills commensurate with the level of the assigned student.
5. Must be able to be trained to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI, physical restraint).
6. Empathy for special needs of disabled children and an ability to communicate with physically and mentally disabled students.
7. Ability to hear and speak to exchange information; dexterity of hands and fingers for operating office equipment, carrying, pushing or lifting classroom equipment and supplies; bending at the waist; reaching overhead, above the shoulders or horizontally to store equipment; and seeing to observe students in classroom activities.
8. Moving around a classroom or playground environment freely and independently to observe children naturally and unobtrusively.
9. Ability to lift, walk, run, stand, etc. Must be able to remain outside for 30 minutes at 20 degrees below zero.
10. If the posted vacancy lists a requirement for signing skills, the applicant must at a minimum have completed ASL I and ASL II or have the equivalent skills gained by having completed these courses.
