Paraeducator Pool (General and/or Special Education), 2024-2025 School Year
This position is for Paraeducator Pool for the District with varying shifts and duties for the 2024-2025 school year.

POSITION SUMMARY (Paraeducator - Elementary):
The incumbent performs a variety of instructional and classroom support and student supervision duties to assist the school and teachers in instruction, supervision, and education of students.
POSITION SUMMARY (Paraeducator - Secondary):
The incumbent provides vocationally specific instructional support to teachers and is responsible for assisting groups of students in various curriculum clusters. Performs the full range of Paraeducator duties and responsibilities combined with applying vocationally specific experience and training to support student learning.
POSITION SUMMARY (Paraeducator II - Special Education Structured or Transitional Learning Center, Adult Transition Program):
The incumbent performs a variety of instructional, training, and/or support duties to assist Special Education teachers in instruction, supervision, and education of students with severe physical and mental special needs that generally require placement in self-contained classrooms. The incumbent may also be assigned in one-on-one teacher-to-student situations when the students have needs similar to those of Structured Learning Center classrooms (e.g., physical disabilities requiring considerable support).
COMPENSATION:
Initial wage placement according to NCSD/OSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Retirement Plan Contributions
North Clackamas School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP) on behalf of its employees. The district contributes the employer portion; there is also a mandatory employee portion. Upon eligibility, which is defined as working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position, the employee is required to contribute 6% as their employee portion, via payroll deduction. Part-time employees working at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year will qualify.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population.- Successful completion of an Associate’s Degree or two years of post-high school education in appropriate and related areas of study. The education requirement may be substituted as the sole discretion of the District by successfully passing the written Educational Testing Service competency examination.
- May be required to be certified or to become certified in first aid, CPR, and/or operation of defibrillators.
- Able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing tasks and priorities.
- Able to assist, console, and manage students who may be emotional, distraught, or frustrated.
- Able to remain calm, focused and in control when working with students, parents, guardians, and community members who may be difficult and challenging to engage.
- Able to follow written and verbal direction and take the initiative to seek clarity and take action when needed.
- Be or become knowledgeable and supportive of classroom management and student discipline procedures.
- Proficiency in the proper use of the English language to include annunciation, spelling, and syntax to assist and model proper language usage by students.
- Able to organize work and set priorities for accomplishing work in a timely and effective manner.
- Able to protect the confidentiality of student information consistent with FERPA requirements and good judgment.
- Able to work collaboratively and effectively with staff, students, parents, volunteers, and community members.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Skill in the use of office and computer equipment and use standard office software and student information system software.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor Degree in an appropriate and related field of study.
- Two years of experience that demonstrates the ability to work successfully with children in a learning environment.
- Bilingual and bicultural skills in such common languages to the District as Spanish, Korean, Russian and Vietnamese (to be determined by the specific position).
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (depending on specific assignment) Paraeducator - Elementary: - Works collaboratively by assisting teachers in assessment, supporting curriculum, student interactions, enforcing and teaching safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of students in the school setting.
- Implements behavior support and intervention plans as directed by a teacher. Documents behavior of students to assist teachers in assessing progress with education plans. Maintain or assist in maintaining student weekly progress reports.
- Provide limited first aid when necessary. Assess injury to determine whether nursing care is needed. Maintain knowledge of students that may have medical concerns to remain aware of potentially dangerous situations for their individual condition.
- When communicating with students, parents, community members and other staff members exercises discretion and assures protection of student confidentiality consistent with the direction and guidance of staff, administrators, and school/district policies and procedures.
- Utilize training provided to manage student behavior to ensure student safety. Takes steps to intervene when students are not in control, not in the proper location, or may be in dangerous or unsafe situations.
- May take action, or assist in taking action, to de-escalate students who are at risk of harming themselves or others by following school/district-approved procedures.
- Provides instructional support and tutoring to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations.
- Oversees student safety during activities such as recess and playground supervision, bus duty, crossing guard duty, hallway supervision, etc. Take steps to intervene when students are not in control or maybe in dangerous or unsafe situations.
- May provide toileting, feeding, mobility and personal hygiene-related duties for students requiring such help.
- Perform clerical duties such as making copies, operating office equipment, answering telephones, ordering materials, and record keeping.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (depending on specific assignment) Paraeducator - Secondary: - Works collaboratively by assisting teachers in assessment, curriculum implementation, student interactions, enforcing and teaching safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of students in the classroom.
- Assist students in the use and application of specific curriculum, vocational knowledge, skills, tools, processes, and equipment. May assist students and coordinate with business representatives in an in-school or off-site work environment as part of the vocational learning experience.
- Implements behavior support and intervention plans as directed by a teacher. Documents behavior of students to assist teachers in assessing progress with education plans. Maintain, or assist in maintaining, student weekly progress reports.
- Communicates with students, parents, and community members with respect and confidentiality and consistent with the direction and guidance of staff, administrators, and school/district policies and procedures.
- Discusses grades with students and assists them with strategies and plans to improve them. Assists students with school work.
- Maytake action, or assist in taking action, to de-escalate students who are at risk of harming themselves or others by following school/district-approved procedures.
- Oversees student behavior and safety. Takes steps to intervene when students are not in control, not in the proper location, or may be in dangerous or unsafe situations.

The following duties are intended to cover all or most Structured Learning Center/ATP settings. The specific duties that apply to any given position will vary.- Works collaboratively by assisting teachers and specialists in assessment, curriculum implementation, student interactions, student intervention, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social and life skills growth of students. Assistance is typically provided in special education Structured Learning Center (SLC), Transitional Learning Center (TLC), Adult Transition Program (ATP) classrooms or in regular education classrooms to students with similar one-on-one special needs.
- Provides complex toileting, feedding, mobility, and personal hygiene-related duties for students requiring such help.
- May independent living skills such as cooking, laundry, general personal hygiene and cleanliness.
- May take action, or assist in taking action, to de-escalate students who are at risk of harming themselves or others by following school/district-approved procedures.
- Provides instructional support and tutoring to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations.
- Implements behavior support and intervention plans as directed by a teacher. Documents behavior of students to assist teachers in assessing progress with education plans. Maintain, or assist in maintaining, student weekly progress reports.
- Assist in implementing physical and occupational therapy plans by working with students to increase range of motion, mobility, and positioning.
- May escort students in one-on-one or small groups to and from recess and playground, to and from bus locations, and may be required to ride on the bus with student(s).
- Oversees student safety during activities such as recess and playground supervision, bus duty, crossing guard duty, hallway supervision, etc. Take steps to intervene when students are not in control or maybe in dangerous or unsafe situations.
- When communicating with students, parents, community members, and other staff members exercises discretion and assures protection of student confidentiality consistent with the direction and guidance of staff, administrators, and school/district policies and procedures.
- Performs clerical duties such as preparing instructional materials, making copies, operating office equipment, answering telephones, and record keeping.
