    The Highland Local School District has an opening for one (1) Secretary (Board of Education/Central Office).
    The position is contracted for 260 days per school year, eight (8) hours per day.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Minimum of High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required. Fluency in technology applications such as
    Microsoft Office, Google Workplace, web-based applications, student information system software
    (PowerSchool), scheduling, calendars and email. Prior secretarial and office experience, a strong
    work ethic, flexibility and a total understanding and acceptance of the rules of confidentiality are
    necessary to be successful in this position. This person must also obtain background checks from
    the State of Ohio.

    JOB DUTIES:
    Under the general supervision of the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and
    Superintendent, the Secretary will organize, coordinate, and perform
    responsible clerical and secretarial duties specific to his/her job assignment. The person will also
    conduct the daily and clerical operations of the Board Office without initial assignment or direction
    from supervisor(s). The person will greet visitors to the Board of Education office and answer
    calls to the Board of Education Office main line.

    SPECIFIC DUTIES:
    • Communicates effectively with students, parents, teachers, district personnel and community members.
    • Presents a positive and friendly personality at all times.
    • Demonstrates strong technology skills including the ability to learn new applications, as necessary.
    • Demonstrates the ability to multi-task in a busy environment.
    • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills.
    • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, in small or large groups.
    • In the absence of administrative personnel, makes decisions in routine matters and checks with
      administration when necessary.
    • Coordinates with Teacher Placement Offices at colleges and universities to arrange student teaching and
      field experience placements and keep historical records of placements.
    • Posts job openings, schedules interviews and manages communications with candidates throughout the
      interview process.
    • Maintains a current list of curriculum contacts for textbook purchases and professional development.
    • Maintains an accurate staff seniority list, permit and licensure records and transcripts for all employees.
    • Prepares employment contracts for Board approval and ensures completeness of records.
    • Coordinates, schedules and monitors PublicSchoolWORKS safety training for all employees.
    • Coordinates and maintains accurate records of staff BCI/FBI background checks.
    • Prepares and maintains Board of Education meeting materials and agendas.
    • Updates and prepares staff directory annually.
    • Handles confidential information with discretion, such as student records, staff records and communications.
    • Types, copies, files, processes, mails and/or transmits various routine and confidential documents, which
      may include forms, correspondence, memos, reports, spreadsheets, notices and others.
    • Retrieves and generates computer reports/spreadsheets as required.
    • Schedules appointments for the Director of Curriculum and Superintendent, registers staff for conferences,
      schedules meetings and professional development.
    • Ability to independently place food orders, pick-up food orders and/or schedule food deliveries for special
      events or professional development days, as directed.
    • Processes all requisitions/purchase orders for the Director of Curriculum and Superintendent.
    • Responsible for disbursing funds from petty cash account, reimbursing petty cash account and monthly
      reconciliation of petty cash bank statement.
    • Sorts and distributes all incoming mail and processes outgoing mail.
    • Maintains calendar and schedules use of Board Office Conference Room.
    • Schedules appointments for immediate supervisor.
    • Processes student work permits in the summer.
    • Completes any additional duties as assigned by the Director of Curriculum or Superintendent.

    SALARY:
    Commensurate with experience level and qualifications.
