Position Summary: The successful candidate for this position will work closely and collaborate with Principal and colleagues on matters such as instructional strategies, ongoing assessment, curriculum and data analysis. This position works to build strong relationships with families and staff necessary to meet the social, emotional and instructional needs of each student. The successful candidate will possess successful experience with primary differentiated instructional strategies in reading, writing and mathematics as well as possess a strong knowledge of Early Childhood best practices. Knowledge of ongoing assessment and progress monitoring of students is essential. This position is responsible for learning and implementing new instructional techniques.  This position is a great opportunity for anyone who is a lifelong learner. This position will serve students age 3-5 years of age.

Minimum Requirements:
 
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in education.
• Valid Alaska teaching certificate, or ability to obtain upon hire.
 
Preferred Requirements:
 
• Masters' degree in education preferred.
• Attendance at Literacy Institute and/or further training in the teaching of reading.
• Successful preschool or primary teaching experience.
• Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets and database software.
• Proficient in the use of computerized recordkeeping and reporting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be:
• High School Diploma
• Some prior experience working with school age children preferred
• CPR, first aid and district approved behavior management techniques may be required.  (includes have a general understanding of behavior modification techniques; demonstrates the ability to remain calm and follow through with a plan in stressful situations; manage and deescalate angry and aggressive students; and,  handle a variety of behaviors, including crisis situations).
• Valid Alaska driver’s license required.

• Files and record keeping.
• Personal computers and related software.
• School age children's behavior.
• Behavior modification (includes emotionally disturbed).

Ability to:
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Provide instructional assistance in assigned areas.
• Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.  (Communicate and coordinate effectively with students, staff, supervisors and parents.)
• Operate a personal computer and related software.
• Maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and parents.  (Have an understanding of cultural, family and disability issues; and be able to adapt techniques as needed. 

Compensation: This is a permanent, full-time 9 month position, working 35 hours per week, with a starting salary of $24.60 per hour. We offer an excellent benefit package including medical, dental, vision, the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) plan, and paid time off.
