Position Summary: The Juneau Community Charter School consists of multi-age classrooms and an overall small school size; teaching methods which address the whole child use constructivist methods and curricula; a cooperative school model in which parental involvement is key; frequent interaction with individuals and institutions in the larger Juneau community; long-term relationships of students, staff and families; and a high degree of teacher autonomy. Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in education.
Valid Alaska teaching certificate with elementary or early childhood education endorsement, or ability to obtain upon hire.
Must be federally highly-qualified or able to pass the test for the NCLB "highly qualified" standard(s).
Preferred Requirements:
Constructivist teaching experience and/or training.
Experience teaching in a multi-age classroom.
Experience and/or training in developing emergent curriculum.
Experience and/or training in working collaboratively with specialists and parents in the classroom.
Experience as a team member involved in cross-grade, cross-discipline project-based curriculum design.
As successful JCCS teacher will:
Collaborate with teachers and specialists to continually update and deliver a whole-school, whole-child curriculum.
Create a classroom environment, develop lessons, and deliver curriculum using constructivist learning theory.
Practice Supportive Social Learning to develop in students emotional self-regulation abilities appropriate to their age.
Partner with and train parents to be engaged in the life of the classroom and school.
Work with small, cross-discipline, multi-age groups.
Work independently within the JCCS instructional model.
