    Special Education Teacher, L.E.A.F. Program

    Newark Charter proudly offers a robust continuum of services and supports designed to promote high levels of student effort, achievement, and decorum in line with our mission. Learners served within our L.E.A.F. (Learning Educational and Academic Foundations) program require individualized instruction within a small group setting to develop their academic, social, emotional, communication, self-help, and independent living skills. The High School L.E.A.F. teacher will serve an integral role in developing and implementing the L.E.A.F. program at the high school by:
    • Providing individualized instruction aligned to alternate achievement and/or grade level standards to a small group of learners with diverse and complex needs.
    • Supporting and collaborating with general education teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to adapt instruction and modify curriculum to meet students’ needs.
    • Writing and managing goals for individualized education plans.
    • Collecting and analyzing data to promote meaningful progress.
    • Establishing and maintaining trusting and professional relationships with students and parents.

    School Building: High School

    Reports to: Building Principal

    Terms of Employment: 10-month Position

    Salary: Commensurate with degree level and experience

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Certification:
      • Holds (or is eligible to hold) certificate for Teacher of Students with Autism or Severe Disabilities OR
      • Has a K-12 Special Education certificate and is willing to take 15 credits of coursework to be eligible for certification as a Teacher of Students with Autism or Severe Disabilities.
    • Experience working with students with Autism and/or other complex disabilities

    • Commit to a collaborative professional community focused to ensure delivery of the NCS academic program and use of high quality instructional materials resulting in high levels of academic achievement.
    • Deliver an instructional program that is multifaceted to accommodate different learning styles, different levels of social and intellectual maturity, and different degrees of academic interest and achievement.
    • Motivate and build relationships with students and parents to promote student achievement and strengthen community partnerships.
    • Develop and deliver programming and instruction that is individualized to a variety of student needs and is grounded in high expectations for all students.
    • Engage in professional learning and be committed to continual growth and improvement as an educator.
    • Prioritize parental engagement in the instructional program and as partners to ensure the academic success of all students. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
    • Establish and maintain high standards of student behavior and classroom management, including implementation of positive behavior support plans.
    • Contribute to the school community outside of the instructional program.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
