POSITION TITLE: Special Education Resource Teacher
GRADES: K-8
STATUS: Full-Time Position

Position Description:
Las Américas ASPIRA Academy is looking for a highly motivated teacher to work with both special and general education students.
Responsibilities:
? Evaluate and determine your students' learning capacity and adapt lesson plans according to them
? Assisting with the selection and production of instructional materials and appropriate supplementary supplies.
? Handle a caseload of special education students including development and progress monitoring of IEPs, communicating with parents and related service providers, collaborating with general education teachers to accommodate students, scheduling IEP meetings, etc.
? Monitor the evaluation process, providing relevant input and data, communicating with parents and psychologists, and creating new IEPs.
? Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and write Behavior Intervention Plans
? Plan and implement social skills groups
? Plan for and deliver instruction in a small-group/pull-out setting to students requiring a modified curriculum.
? Collaborate with general education teachers around strategies and interventions to use with identified and unidentified struggling learners.
? Communicating/Coordinating the educational efforts of the resource teacher and the classroom teachers
? Collaborate with members of the Enrichment Team and seek out innovative strategies to problem-solve issues as they arise.
? Be accountable for students' academic growth and achievement.
? Contribute to a positive, achievement-oriented learning environment.
? Reflect on successes and areas of growth as a teacher, seek to improve performance, and respond to feedback.? Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.
? Communicate regularly with parents regarding their children's academic success.
? Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
? Knowledge, coursework, and certification in teaching exceptional learners.
? Comfort and fluency with elementary and middle school reading and math content as well as Common Core State Standards in Reading and Mathematics.
? Bachelor's degree in Education with a concentration in Special Education or comparable degree.
? Possesses or is eligible for a valid State of Delaware Teaching License (for more information on State of Delaware licensure, please visit the website of the

? Successful completion of Praxis I and II exams (unless holding an initial teaching license from the State of Delaware).
? Knowledge and understanding of dual language learners.
? Strong instructional skills and classroom management.
? Ability to reflect upon teaching practices and respond to constructive feedback.
