    JOB SUMMARY:
    This employee will support students with identified hearing needs.  Fluency in American Sign Language is required. 

     QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
    • Provide communication access by using American Sign Language to interpret spoken language and by voicing for students who are signing
    • Provide support for American Sign Language development and understanding of Deaf culture
    • Support student’s needs noted in the IEP and provide tutoring as needed for academics
    • Communicate and consult with classroom teachers to aide in preparation of student support, as needed
    • Communication with parents, and with student, concerning academic and/or behavioral progress
    • Attendance at school and instructional meetings as required
    • Assessing student performance using standardized and teacher made instruments, work samples, portfolios
    • Interpreting and using data from a variety of educational sources for the improvement of instruction
    • Supervise and assure student safety
    • Performing other related duties as assigned

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
    Fluency in American Sign Language required
     
    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:
    Degree in Deaf Education or related field desired
    State of Delaware Certification desired
