Kankakee High School is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Electives Department Lead to provide instructional leadership, support colleagues, and assist with the oversight and management of their respective departments (PE, World Languages, Drivers Education, Health, and other elective courses). This role includes one release period per day to fulfill leadership responsibilities effectively.
Desired Traits
Instructional Leadership:
Facilitate the implementation of curriculum, instructional best practices, and assessment strategies to improve student achievement.
Provide mentorship and support to department members, including new and veteran teachers.
Lead and/or co-lead professional learning communities (PLCs) to foster collaboration and instructional growth.
Department Oversight & Management:
Collaborate with Instructional Programs to provide support in developing and aligning curriculum with district and state standards, when applicable.
Monitor student performance data and support teachers in using data to inform instruction.
Support the department in meeting school-wide academic goals and initiatives.
Assist in scheduling, resource allocation, and materials procurement for the department.
Collaboration & Communication:
Serve as a liaison between the department and administration, ensuring effective communication.
Organize and facilitate regular department meetings to address instructional goals, concerns, and professional development needs.
Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the department.
Administrative Support:
Assist with providing coverage for team department absences.
Provide input on professional development plans as requested.
Assist in developing and implementing school improvement initiatives.
Support the administration in maintaining a positive and productive learning environment.
Collaborate with the 7-12 Instructional Coaches to ensure implementation of the curriculum and assessments are on track with the recommended curriculum guidelines.
Qualifications:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsements.
Minimum of three years of teaching experience preferred.
Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to support and mentor colleagues.
Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment best practices.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle
Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree
Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, machines, etc.
Working Conditions and Environment:
Part-time position, with occasional evening and weekend work as needed.
Travel between district schools is required.
Occasional attendance at board meetings or other district-wide events may be necessary.
