    SUMMARY:
    Leads the elementary school administrative team; plans, organizes, evaluates and supervises the total school program. 
     
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive.  Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.
    • Plans, organizes, evaluates and directs the implementation of all programs and activities in the Elementary School; performs primary liaison duties between the school and the community.
    • Provides leadership to students, staff, parents and community to establish a safe, positive, learning-centered environment; establishes vision, goals, purpose, cultures and values to promote learning.
    • Anticipates the needs of students, staff, and parents and guides the educational experience to ensure an engaging, relevant, and dynamic learning environment so that all learners can meet or exceed personal learning objectives.
    • Engages Hopkins’ community of learners in continuous improvement processes.
    • Implements policies & procedures that align with District, State, and Federal requirements.
    • Establishes procedures for monitoring and regulating processes, tasks or activities of subordinates, and job activities to accomplish strategic objectives.
    • Leads and facilitates change management processes. 
    • Develops and nurtures effective parent and community engagement. 
    • Provides leadership in all aspects of resource management.
    • Seeks information from the school's communities about the performance of the school and demonstrates responsiveness to the concerns and needs expressed.
    • Aligns administrative, staff and site goals with District Strategic Plan.
    • Establishes and maintains regular, informative, and accurate communication with District administrative staff.
    • Implements a data-driven decision-making process within the school; facilitates gathering data to make informed decisions.
    • Manages assigned staff; assigns programmatic responsibilities and projects; resolves workload and technical issues and assures that goals are defined and achieved; develops staff skills and training plans and conducts performance evaluations.
    • Serves as the Instructional Leader responsible for overseeing and facilitating the educational program.
    • Grows and supports the Spanish Immersion program at the site.
    • Supervises and evaluates the effectiveness of the instructional practices of teachers, validates effective teaching practices and helps teachers expand their repertoire of effective teaching strategies. 
    • Ensures a safe, orderly, and disciplined school environment free from institutionalized racism and discrimination that impedes academic excellence and success for all learners.
    • Provides leadership to foster the understanding and cooperation of teachers, students, staff members & parents in abiding by the established rules of conduct.
    • Promotes and supports the overall mission of the District by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment. 
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
     
    Education and Experience:
    • Master’s Degree in Education, or a closely related field.
    • Three (3) years of professional teaching experience.
    • OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 
     
    Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
    Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
    • Driver’s license.
    • Principal’s license from the State of Minnesota.
    Required Knowledge and Skills

    • District policies and procedures.
    • Curriculum requirements and learning objectives.
    • State and Federal laws and regulatory issues governing public education, including rules and regulations of the Minnesota Department of Education.
    • Techniques and practices for efficient and cost-effective management of resources.
    • Legal, ethical and professional rules of conduct for public education administrators.
    • Principles and practices of public sector administrative management, including strategic planning, budgeting, purchasing, contract management, customer service and employee supervision.
    • Local community resources, regional community services programs, and regional training programs.
    • Principles and techniques of making effective oral presentations.
    • Computer applications related to the work.
    • Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
    Required Skills:
    • Directing and coordinating Hopkins Elementary School operations.
    • Understanding and applying educational standards and procedures and Federal and state rules and regulations.
    • Developing and maintaining a public education learning environment in which positive, appropriate behavior is encouraged, and discipline problems are minimized.
    • Planning, organizing, and coordinating the work of school staff.
    • Evaluating workflow and effectively prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
    • Preparing, reviewing and presenting management reports.

    • Operating a personal computer using standard and specialized software.
    • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
    • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
    Work is performed in an office setting within a school building.
    Occasional travel required to locations throughout the District.
     
    Schedule & Compensation:
     
    1.0 FTE
    HASA Master Agreement
    Range: Step 1, $144,335
                Step 2, $148,641
