PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Direct and coordinate administrative activities of Harlingen Public Schools having as their purpose the planning, development and implementation of policies and practices in support of the Secondary Education functions of the district. Provide counsel and assistance to campus leadership in instructional leadership, employee relations, student/parent relations, and communication for Secondary Education. Provide leadership to campuses in areas related to instructional needs and operations and assist in planning and decision making to ensure that campuses are implementing programs that meet the needs of their students and focus on academic success for all students.   Oversee and supervise the overall operations of all the secondary schools in the district.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
• Master’s Degree
• Administrator Certification required

Special Knowledge/Skills:
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Ability to resolve conflict and listen and appropriately respond to concerns
• Demonstrate ability to collaborate with students, staff, parents and members of the community
• Knowledge of research based instructional programs;
• Knowledge of local, state and federal rules and regulations as pertains to certified personnel preferred
• Knowledge of current theory, research and practices in curriculum and instruction
• Management style compatible with the position
• Demonstrate skills in instructional and campus leadership
• Ability to interpret data
 
Experience:
• Minimum (5) total successful years’ experience as a principal in Secondary Schools
• Central Office Experience (Preferred)

Major Responsibilities and Duties/Essential Funcations:        
• Coordinates with the Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education to administer the district’s instructional program.
• Provides for a collaborative decision-making system so that educational programs can be fashioned by those closest to the action to meet the unique needs of individual campuses.
• Develops and coordinates a comprehensive evaluation system designed to determine the effectiveness of the instructional programs at individual campuses.
• Monitors the implementation and coordination of a formal evaluation process for campus-based administrators.
