QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree required in speech and language pathology
- Prefer CFY eligible or CCC
- Valid Michigan teacher's certificate with full approval in the speech and language impaired, preferred
- Previous experience with students with disabilities preferred
- Ability to work with individuals and small groups
- Ability to participate in co-teaching or inclusionary speech lessons
- Ability to communicate both orally and in written communications
- Demonstrates initiative and understanding in working with students, staff and parents/guardians
- Demonstrates mental/physical ability and stamina for meeting the requirements of the position
- Ability to make decisions in accordance with board policies and procedures with minimum supervision
- Maintain regular, reliable and punctual attendance
JOB SUMMARY:
The teacher of the speech and language impaired provides services to students, staff and families that improve and develop the use of speech and language for eligible students with disabilities.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Provides evaluations to suspected students with disabilities or special education students in the areas of speech, voice, language and oral motor skills
- Provides speech and language services to eligible students with disabilities in various settings
- Provides consultation to staff and parents/guardians regarding speech and language services
- Develops annual goals and short-term instructional objectives for students assigned to the caseload
- Attends Multi disciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Education Planning Committee (IEPC) meetings as requested
- Compiles and maintains records for students assigned to the caseload
- Assists in instructional and other ancillary staff in referring students for speech and language services
- Maintains regular, reliable and punctual attendance
- Performs other related duties as assigned
SALARY: Per DEA Master Agreement
