Role and Essential Duties:
The Teacher of Students with Emotional Impairment is responsible for providing and coordinating the instructional program for students in the assigned classroom. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing individualized educational plans (IEPs) for students.
- Assessing students' achievements and tailoring instructional strategies to meet their needs.
- Collaborating with staff, parents, and community agencies to support student development.
- Participating in Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Education Program Team (IEPT) meetings.
- Implementing behavior intervention plans and health care procedures as needed.
- Engaging in professional development and staying current with best practices in emotional impairment education.
Qualifications and Experience: - Education: Bachelor's degree required. Valid Michigan teacher's certificate with approval in emotional impairment.
- Skills/Other: Ability to explain and demonstrate appropriate teaching techniques. Demonstrates initiative and understanding in working with students, staff, and parents/guardians. Ability to work creatively and skillfully with students. Demonstrated physical stamina necessary for assisting with lifting and moving students up to 26 years of age; repetitive stooping, squatting, bending, lifting, walking, kneeling, and reaching while maintaining personal balance and stability; implementing behavior intervention plans; and performing the essential job duties. Exhibit emotional stability, exercise good judgment, and make decisions in accordance with board policies and administrative guidelines with minimum supervision.
- Experience: Experience with students with emotional impairment preferred.
Salary and Benefits: - Competitive Salary: The salary schedule for the 2024-2025 school year includes a 2% increase on schedule, with salaries ranging from $36,896 to $87,437 depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, eligible special education positions will receive an additional 2% off-schedule stipend.
- Benefits: We offer five different health plans along with dental, vision, life, and disability insurance after one full day of employment. Employees are offered flexible savings (FSA) or healthcare savings (HSA) accounts based on elected medical plan. Retirement savings plans through the Michigan Office of Retirement Services (ORS).

Team Structure: The Teacher will work under the supervision of the Building Principal. The team includes other specialists, classroom teachers, and support staff who collaborate to provide comprehensive services to students. Regular consultations and coordination with community agencies, local districts, and other educational professionals are integral to the role.
