    About the Position
    This is an on-call position that fills in for absent employees at one of our 33 schools or other District buildings. The Custodian Substitute is responsible for performing duties and routine manual labor which are necessary to keep facilities in a clean, safe, and healthful condition for students, staff, and community members. Working as a substitute can make you a competitive candidate when regular, full-time positions open!

    Essential Functions-
    -
     Completes routine custodial cleaning in accordance with District procedures.  
    - Sweeps, mops, vacuums floors and carpets, and polishes floors as necessary. 
    - Gathers and disposes of trash and recyclables. Washes wastebaskets and large refuse containers as needed. 
    - Cleans, sanitizes, and disinfects restrooms, locker rooms, showers and drinking fountains. Replaces disposable products, such as toilet paper, paper towels, and soap. Performs emergency cleaning services.
    - Washes windows, walls, and ceilings. Dusts and cleans furniture, blinds and equipment.
    - Opens and/or closes buildings. Prepares building for use, including de-icing and cleaning sidewalks. Locks and secures building, including setting alarm at night. 
    - Uses power equipment and hand tools such as broom, mop, auto scrubber, carpet extractors, sweeper, vacuums, buffing machine.
    - Performs routine maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, washing exterior windows, and refinishing floors as required. 
    - Assist staff or outside groups using the building for programs, special events or assemblies.  Set up and tear down tables and chairs.
    - Performs other related duties as assigned. 

    Required Qualifications
    - Knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in janitorial care.
    - Skill in efficiently and safely operating cleaning equipment and hand tools.  
    - Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
    - Work cooperatively with school principal, staff, community members and students.
    - Ability to organize work and ensure tasks are completed on time.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Previous work experience as a custodian or other job-related experience is desired.  

    Working Conditions
    Work is generally performed indoors, some work is performed outdoors during all seasons.  Work involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which requires basic safety precautions. 

    Physical Demands
    Physical stamina necessary to complete assigned duties.  Ability to stand for prolonged periods, walk long distances, bend, stoop, and twist frequently.  Requires frequent heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 50 lbs.  Occasionally lift or move 75-100 lbs. Ability to climb ladders and occasionally work at heights up to 12 feet. 

    Salary:
    2024-25  Salary Schedule: $25.80 per hour
