After- School E-Sports Coach
Position Overview
East Cleveland City School District is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic ESports Coach to lead our after-school ESports program. This position is designed to provide students with a structured, supportive environment where they can engage in team-based competitive gaming. The coach will guide students in developing gaming strategies, sportsmanship, teamwork, and communication skills while promoting a healthy approach to gaming.
Responsibilities
Team Development & Training: Plan and lead practice sessions focused on skill-building, game strategy, and teamwork in popular ESports titles (e.g., League of Legends, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros).
Student Mentorship: Provide mentorship and encouragement to help students balance gaming with their academic and personal responsibilities.
Event Preparation & Coordination: Organize and supervise local and regional ESports tournaments, including travel logistics and parental permissions.
Skill & Character Building: Emphasize core values of sportsmanship, fair play, and respect, fostering a positive gaming community.
Technology Management: Set up gaming equipment, ensuring all hardware and software are functioning correctly for practice sessions and competitions.
Parental Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with parents, keeping them informed of student progress and program goals.
Academic Integration: Students in this program must maintain a 2.5 grade point average.
Qualifications
Experience: Previous experience in coaching, ESports, or competitive gaming; experience working with middle and high school students is a plus.
Education: Some college coursework in Education, Youth Development, Sports Management, or a related field is preferred.
Knowledge of ESports Titles: Familiarity with competitive gaming and knowledge of popular ESports titles, game mechanics, and team strategies.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to connect with students, encourage personal growth, and maintain a respectful and engaging environment.
Organizational Skills: Effective in planning practices, scheduling, and managing students’ participation in events.
Preferred Skills
Basic knowledge of streaming platforms (e.g., Twitch) to help promote games and competitions.
Experience with managing or setting up gaming hardware.
Understanding of digital citizenship and online safety.
Terms of Employment / Salary:
Hours: Part-time, primarily Monday through Friday, 3-6 PM, with occasional evening and weekend events.
Compensation: Hourly stipend based on ECEA negotiated agreement
