WORK HOURS AND COMPENSATION
$30 per hour approx 25h/week through the end of the 2024-2025 school year
Year-round position; schedule to be determined with Communications and Community Relations Coordinator

SUMMARY: The Spanish ELE Family Liaison acts as a bridge between newly enrolled English Learner (EL) families, the school district, and the community, aiming to foster family engagement in their children’s education. This self-starter role involves assessing family needs and responding quickly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Family Liaison and Support
- Serve as a bridge between EL parents, the district, and the community.
- Assist EL parents with the school registration process.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with EL families.
- Actively monitor and respond to the need for interpretation and translation services.
- Communicate with school staff regarding new EL student/family needs.
2. Interpretation and Translation Services - Provide interpretation/translation services as needed.
- Manages district interpretation and translation requests.
- Coordinate services for EL families and arrange translation/interpretation for meetings, conferences, and calls.
3. Family Needs Assessment and Resource Connection - Identify EL family needs for school and community resources.
- Offer information on public and private resources (e.g., SNAP, WIC, food pantries, health services, legal and immigration assistance).
4. School-Home Communication and Engagement - Collaborate with building principles, administration and ESL teachers to identify needs of EL families.
- Serve as an intermediary between the district and the Multilingual Parent Advisory Council (MLPAC).
- Interpreter at Parent/Teacher Conferences, district Open Houses and Registration Events.
5. Information and Training for Families - Facilitate monthly informational sessions for newly registered EL families.
- Create and distribute monthly newsletters, calendars, flyers, and letters.
- Plan events and activities with MLPAC to support and educate parents.
- Share information to EL families regarding school events, athletics and college transition readiness.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Minimum of a high school diploma.
- Preferred: Experience in translation, interpretation, and coordinating events.
- Proficiency in verbal and written communication in Spanish and English.
- Ability to learn and utilize school-home communication technology platforms, including WhatsApp.
- Competence in Microsoft Publisher, Excel, Word, G Suite, and other software.
- Willingness to undergo district-provided and state-approved training programs (e.g., DESE LAT and Tier II Language Interpretation and Translation certification).
- Time management, self-starter and excellent organizational skills
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
