JOB TITLE: Head Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
The Boys Basketball Head Coach is to be responsible for coaching, character development, and providing direction to student athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork in basketball.
Boylan Catholic believes that the Boys Basketball Head Coach must assume a major role in fostering cooperation and positive teamwork, exhibiting outstanding sportsmanship and fan involvement at games, special events, and most importantly, assume a major role in the development of our youth as future leaders.
This job requires you to interact thoughtfully and respectfully with student athletes, fellow coaches, staff, parents, and community. Positive communication strategies, organizational skills, and safety awareness are key requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous coaching experience in basketball.
- Must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and at the same time must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
- Must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his instructions and actions.
- IHSA Coaching Certification.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, organize, and direct the Boylan Catholic Boys Basketball program
- Follows and upholds the policies and mission statement of Boylan Catholic High School.
- Thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies
- Knowledge of existing system, state, and league regulations; implements the same consistently and interprets them for staff.
- Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:
- Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times.
- Provides documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration in student athletes the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
- By his presence at all practices games and while traveling, provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant.
EQUIPMENT:
- Monitors equipment rooms and coaches' offices, authorizes who may enter, issue or requisition equipment.
- Permits the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times.
- Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility. Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment.
- Secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty.
- Instills in each player respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
