MISSION STATEMENT The mission of Benet Academy, as an independent Catholic, college preparatory high school in the Benedictine tradition, is to provide a disciplined educational environment that fosters the on-going religious, intellectual, and social development of its students.
JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective The Head Coach of the Girls & Boys Tennis teams is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to student athletes and assistant coaches within the program. The Head Coach will instruct student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
Essential Functions - Has full responsibility for the overall supervision and development of the Girls & Boys Tennis programs.
- In charge of assignments and duties and oversight of any assistant coaches in the Girls & Boys Tennis programs.
- In coordination with the Athletic Director, plans and implements team activities, tryouts, practices, game plans and summer activities.
- Teaches student-athletes to perform sound, safe fundamental techniques of the designated sport throughout the season.
- Follows the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) and Benet Academy’s policies and site procedures.
- Fosters training in conduct, ethics and sportsmanship for all participants and coaches.
- Works with a spirit of teamwork to schedule practices with other teams' needs.
- Responsible for the safety and security of the team before, during, and after events and traveling to and from events. Coach may be required to ride/drive the bus with the team.
- Verifies with the Athletic Department that each team member is clear to participate before allowing him/her to tryout or practice as it pertains to academic, behavioral, or medical eligibility.
- Responsible for distribution, collection, and general upkeep of all uniforms and equipment and providing an end of the season inventory.
- Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the assigned sport is always conducted athletes are present.
- Reports any unsafe conditions to the administration in a timely manner.
- With the Athletic Department sets up a preseason parent orientation meeting for all levels to review eligibility, athletic code, team rules, and risk factors for all athletes.
- Complies with time constraints for practice and contest schedules, including holidays as well as off-season schedules.
- Adhere to all of Benet Academy’s policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Excellent sport specific technical, tactical, and strategic knowledge.
- Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
- Basic proficiency in excel, word, internet & email capabilities.
- Prior experience with video & software, helpful.
- Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the sport, and ability to coach & motivate.
- The successful candidate for this position will be required to complete a criminal background, Safe Environment Training and required IHSA training.
Supervisory Responsibility Supervises the Assistant Coaches.

Physical Demands Requires prolonged sitting or standing. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials. May also require stooping, bending, and reaching. Requires travel. Must work outdoors in various weather conditions. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
Position Type/Hours of Work This is a seasonal position, typically from March through May. The hours are typically after school and weekends during the season.
Travel Required for Tennis Meets.
